Had the day off today so woke up early to get to the NWR and it was all rain and heavy clouds. Still made the trip, cloudy most of the day (sun broke through for a little while) with lots of sparrows and red-wings.

Okay bird haters, here you go....some lousy shots from a bird photographer while walking around Butchart Gardens this afternoon...not a bird in sight....you'll be begging me to post more birds after seeing this amateur hour landscape/floral stuff
All shot with Canon 24-70 f/4 IS adapted via Sigma MC-11.
Sorry that didn't last long....here are the birds from this morning
The swallows were not cooperating and coming down to feed on the water. So just some overcropped shots that don't look all that great. Hopefully swallow season picks up soon.

While I don't doubt your ability or A1's ability, do you think the images in the sequence would challenge any camera? It's your skill that keep the bird in frame (which is a big challenge for me), but since the distance between bird and camera is fairly static I'm not sure you need A1 to capture these shots... What do you think?
Yes and no. Side profile many cameras can keep that subject in focus. Only one can do it at 50mp for 45 frames in a 1.5 second window.

No I don't need the A1 to get those shots. I have gotten shots like that with many different cameras over the years. I do think that most of the other cameras other than the A9/A9II and maybe R5 would have a few missed frames in that sequence and of course most would give you 1/3-1/2 the number of frames to choose from in the 1.5s that sequence took.
To have a camera that can give you 50MPs with 30FPS and near perfect AF in a sequence like that is what the A1 does.
With an A9II I'd have half the resolution and 1/3 less files to pick wing/head positions.
With the R5 I'd have 1/3 less files but good resolution. The R5 would be the closest competitor.
With the D500/D850 I'd have the resolution but 2/3 less images to pick from but I'd be deaf from the stupid mechanical shutter
With the 1DXII every few images would be OOF for no apparent reason and again I'd probably be deaf.

Amazing sequence. Congratulations!
Shouldn’t an A1 + 1.4x TC + FE 100-400/4.5-5.6 get close to this with your skill level, just a tad wider?
Also can you pull this off with your FE 600/4?
With 50mp, 100-400 plus TC is a legit bird lens now.

I agree. I repurchased the 100-400 after selling my RF 100-500. I wasn't really getting it to shoot birds but with the 50MPs it is becoming a more useful bird lens.

K-H.
There is no question that a smaller/lighter lens is easier to track a bird. But as long as I'm not fatigued from an entire day of shooting I can pull that off with the 600/4 also.
