Despite the annoyingly large file sizes, I do sometimes appreciate those extra megapixels and the resulting "cropability" of A1 images.
It was midday with terribly harsh sunlight and we were just walking around in the field, and I had my A1 attached to 600GM+1.4x on my shoulder. We noticed this Red Tailed Hawk flying way too high up in the sky. For the heck of it, I just raised my lens and took a couple of frames. Given the light and the distance, I knew the IQ is likely going to be crappy. And as you see below, the IQ does indeed leave a lot to be desired. The first image is straight out of camera (except for raw to jpg conversion), and the second is my attempt in editing and rescuing the frame and trying to at least get a half-decent frame out of it. So you be the judge. But I feel like the processed image may still be usable for web and small prints, and that is mostly thanks to those extra megapixels in A1...

You could always just use crop mode and get smaller files.
That also makes acquisition and tracking more demanding. In the example above, crop mode would have missed the bird.
But you're right, the file would have been smaller .
Another day at the pond photographing the local ospreys fishing. I'm glad the A1 AF performs so well from transitioning from sky, to background to water and keeping focused compared to the other brands next to me with big primes
