This particular Cooper's Hawk has landed in my trees over the past few days looking for its next meal.
Each time I've tried to sneak out of the house to capture some shots it would fly off. The 1st image is through the living room window... I wouldn't print this one.. but.. for the web it works... quality wise. I opened my front door and it was in a tree attacking the nesting pair of dove, the eggs hit the ground, the dove flew off and the hawk landed on my fence.
It then went to another mesquite tree... sat for a minute... then went after another nest. One of the adults got hit but managed to bounce on the ground.. .get up and fly off. The hawk then landed in the tree on the nest and if you look in its talons, there is a half grown chick. That was a difficult shot to capture as it was so deep in the tree... not the best capture ever but you can see what's going on.
All in all... the Cooper's hawk got a meal, three dove didn't make it (counting the eggs)... but that's nature. Everything needs to eat...
