This is just about a worst case scenario... 600mm with the 2xTC and cropped a little past ASPC sized on a dreary snow/sleet day. Good enough for social media and I was surprised at the detail there was there (I expected zero detail). Cleaned up with Topaz denoise (I included an cell phone shot for reference on the distances, good luck trying to find the snowy ).
What was great is that for an hour I was the only one observing the Snowy, lately I don't even stop to take photos because the crowds so I'll pick lousy photo but quiet over crazy crowds any day.
I had posted this over in the 600mm forum as well but I also took some video that day and thought it better to put here. Nothing special (video isn't my thing) so I just let the camera do it's thing. The video is better then the stills at this range (for obvious reasons).

Great shots despite being against the absolute limits, but wow the video really pays dividends. It's remarkable how clear and sharp it is compared to the stills, no softness (e.g. the diffuse glow on the grass) that I could perceive. Well worth the effort, thank you for sharing!

Thanks!
I may have been a little lazy on the noise reduction and gotten too much on the grasses in the photos. I should go back and look at it to see if I can do a better job.

Oh not criticizing the photos, they're awesome, just impressed with how well the video stands up. Could be one day sooner than later we really are just taking tills from footage!

Didn't take it that way at all . I 100% agree, the video is much more impressive and makes me more likely to take video in the difficult situations.
Cooper's Hawk in the backyard this morning in the warm morning light. This guys been around for years (assuming it's the same one) and I've never been able to get a good shot of it but today I outsmarted it. I climbed out our bedroom window onto the roof of the garage (it's a flat roof) and snuck this shot around the corner of the house into the backyard. I can only imagine what the neighbors and people driving by thought seeing some strange guy on his roof with a giant lens (600mm f4)
I did clean up a couple of branches in photoshop that were distracting.

Along the roadway before the split to the Lehigh County Zoo and the rest of the Nature Preserve, Trexler Nature Preserve, Schnecksville, PA.
Views from a very cold morning (11F to 32F) from Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge, Forest City, Missouri
Many of them affected by heat haze, but it was a breath-taking 6 hours well spent in the cold
Planning to go back soon with a rented 600mm f/4 GM or a Nikon 600mm f/4 or 800mm f/5.6
