This lens looks like a very solid offering. Personally, I think I'm going to go with the 35mm GM, but I am eager to see the three way comparisons between this and the GM and CV lenses. I just can't resist having f/1.4 at this focal length, but I may end up also adding the Sigma at some point for smaller carry.
Phase One claims that Capture One uses an embedded "manufacturer's profile" for Sony lenses. Does this extend to Sony-compatible lenses like the i-series Sigma lenses?
Hi Fred, I've already ask this question, but I think it has been lost in the middle of the thread
For a long time your favorite 35mm for sony has been the 24GM in crop mode. Now how would you compare the 24gm to the Sigma 35mm in terms of rendering (since sharpness cannot be compared due to the difference in sensor size)?

I have Capture One (C1) 21 and there are C1 profiles for about 70 Sony branded lens plus another 14 for Sony Zeiss branded. C1 will use the manufactures profile for any lens not on their lists.
The i-series sigmas do not show up in the Sigma lens list but lens are always being added.

Yes. E-mount lenses can come with corrections in the lens and Sony cameras have been embedding those in ARW files since 2011. It is possible that a third-party won't add the data to their lens or adapter. Yongnuo hasn't added profiles for their own EF lenses on their EF-E II adapter yet. Sigma has them for their Global Vision EF and SA lenses on the MC-11. Metabones is not doing anything. Sony stopped adding profiles for A-mount lenses before fully covering their current lens offerings. The 1985 Minolta AF 28mm F2.8 gets Lens Compensation/manufacturer profile even though the Sony branded version of that lens was discontinued not that long after 2011. I prefer the manufacturer distortion and shading profiles to Phase One's own. Premade lateral CA correction tends to be worse than letting the software analyze images.

I checked that only for one or two lenses, but I also prefer the embedded profile (manufacturer's profile) to PhaseOne's custom lens profile...
There were two members asking how the Sigma 35/2's rendering compared to the FE 24/1.4 GM in crop mode. It looks like I will be able to compared them side by side in a week.

I never use OEM hoods. I buy cheap metal ones. Been doing that trick a really long time. Usually the OEM hoods are too big...
And Thank You as you pointed me to those for my Batis 85 and 135mm lenses a couple years back. They are 3/4" long 67mm diameter screw on metal and work just perfect. I leave them mounted permanently and both lenses fit in my sling bag vertically with these hoods, where I had to reverse the OEM hood.

What hood do you use for Batis 85? Care to share the link?

Sure, as I just ordered 2 more 67mm hoods this morning but this time with a 72mm pinch cap. My old order I just got the hood and used the existing 67mm cap inside the hood, but with the Zeiss caps, this was difficult to pinch and seat properly. However the Sony 67mm cap worked fine inside the hood. So I will put the new ones on the Batis lenses and use the included 72mm cap. Total for 2 was $10.33 inc. tax and free delivery. And unlike before when they came from China, Rainbow Imaging now has a NY office and ships from there with 4 day delivery included!
And in case anyone is wondering, the hood does vignette on the Sony 20mm f1.8 G lens unfortunately, but should be just fine on my 35mm f1.4 GM once received.
Edit: Be aware that the Batis 85 and 135mm lenses have the body flare outwards where it meets the lens hood to a 72mm + diameter. So these straight sided hoods fit inside of that at 67mm and are not flush with the flare at the sides of the lens.
So will you choose this lens over Sony FE If focus speed and accuracy was a major ask? I like that Sony can focus closer and is faster too...more blur then...confused

The difference between 1/3 a stop at 35mm is not much of a blur difference. And, the Sigma has appreciably smoother OOF bokeh and transitions generally as well. The AF and MFD performance are the strengths of the Sony, not the rendering or bokeh.

I'm not sure if this is a trend with third party lenses or all lenses but the Sigma 35 can only focus with phase detect in AF-C, when using AF-C the focusing is extremely fast and accurate with my A7R III. In AF-S it's substantially slower.
Excellent conclusion from Fred.
Thanks to your time for such deep and abundant information.
We wish the comparison between 35mm APO and 35mm GM later.
Currently I am using Rokinon 35mm F2 that is very nice lens that is almost same level to Sigma 35mm DC DN
in optical quality (SonyAlpha.blog).
Center: almost same quality for all these lens.
Corner: 35mm GM ahead of Sigma and Rokinon (Samsung).
GM35 bokeh is one step ahead of the other two.
I wish to get Sigma 35mm DC DN for Panasonic S1R.
But I wish to purchase either
35mm APO or 35GM (inclined APO than Sony due to price and its unique favorable trait)
