I think the State library on Macquarie St has a photography seminar on portraits this coming Thursday. Anyone have any details on it? www.sl.nsw.gov.au seems to be down at the moment.
I want a small P&S that uses CF but nearly all of them are now moved onto SD cards or I might try finding a cheap cheap 2nd hand Sony that's smaller than my 717 I have in the house. Good to leave in the car or something and not that funky.
When: Thursday 12 May, 6.30 pm (drinks in the Galleries from 6 pm)
Where: Metcalfe Auditorium
Cost: $13.50
Bookings
The fashion world isn't all gloss and glamour. Just ask Hamish Ta-me, one of Sydney's busiest fashion photographers, whose candid and behind the scenes pictures put the champagne sipping industry in a whole new light. Hamish presents an entertaining slideshow of catwalk capers and carryings on.

All the Canon IXUS cameras use CF cards, otherwise if you still have memory sticks you can look at all the small Sonys. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs.asp
Like Ed said, all the Canon ones have moved over from CF.. I used a work IXUS 430. That was alright but anyway, P&S is the least of my worries. I'm more interested in another body.
Like Ed said, it doesn't matter what equipment you have. Even Ed has an entry level model camera so if he can do it, anyone can. (btw, I am pulling your leg but seriously, even a P&S camera would do just as well). I'm sure most of us came from a P&S camera so we still can share pointers for any camera.
We are just a bunch of gear freaks and have no idea about photography!! no no no...just me
Seriously, we all have to start from somewhere with a basic camera. The more basic is your camera, the faster you will learn. When I was at uni, I was shooting with a humble Ricoh XR8 SLR with a 28-80 3.5-5.6 lens. This camera takes good portraits and earned me a wife
We always have our outings in or around Sydney as most of us live or work in or around Sydney (ask how many times we have done the walking around the harbour) ...just keep checking this thread!!
