Hi Guys, i'd like to buy an entry level telephoto lens second hand.
I know this topic is not commercial, but if you would be a Sydneysider, with an unused stuff (perhaps moved up and abandoned) then please give me a buzz, and if it's a deal i'd pick it up.
CANON 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM Lens or 75-300 kitlens preferred, or something around it.
I was recently in your fine town for the QM2/QE2 thing. i come from Queensland.
inadvertantly, i stayed at the Meriton on Pitt Street, which is two doors down from Teds...lucky. On Monday, i purchased an 80-200 2.8 from there (as opposed to other places that denied such a lens existing, and insisting i should buy a 3000 dollar 70-200 VR - no thanks), and Tuesday was all filled up with picture taking. i even ran into there asking whether they had any fully charge EN-EL3 batteries around, they even complied with that...best customer service i have had in a camera shop.

Ed W: Nice from you to offer a 1D M II. I assume you've gone nuts since the M III is out
Hydrotoast: thanks for the 100-300 tip. One of your link offers it for 500$. Must be an old link, i reckon it's a bit too much for it even in Oz $ terms?!
I'm just a broke student with tight budget Please consider this.
Analogy: No zoom on your lens? Use your feet. Slow lens, must use higher ISO? Spend more labor hours on photoshop
Spoilt users:
Many testimonials go like: "and the autofocus is noisy" Wwho cares? What a luxury whinging. It's like: "the elevator broke. I had to take the steps."
Technology evolves, but the new generation doesn't seem to appreciate it any bit. I'd made mandatory to teach students in an old-fasioned way in any fields of study.
You'll find the camera stores here whilst have a better range than say in Brissy, prices here are fairly expensive.
Zab, AF noise isn't that big of an issue. It's the speed. My Tamron 28-75 is NOISY when it AF but the worse thing is that it is noticeably slower than the USM equipped lenses.

2nd: thanks for the lens offer. I've been to a shop to make some test shots with the 75-300 kitlens. For me the fair value of that lens would be max $140.
Even if it takes half a year, i'll even starve to save money and go for a better one.
No worries mate, I also used a 75-300 for about a year, probably one of the softest Canon lens around . But it has been selling for around $200 on ebay...
Do save up for a better one if this is not what you want... good luck
Oh yeah and while we are talking about hardware...
I've been trying not to buy the EF 135 f/2L... Smelly I know you have/had one, I'm thinking portrait & still life use... anyone care to talk me into it ?
(Just fo I can tell the g/f that someone made me do it! )
