The thing is that the beach has become a no-photo zone for me... and it's sad coz I'd love to catch images of say stuff like beach competitions etc that's the Aussie culture... I'd be more than happy to show the authorities every single picture and they can vett them before I go home and put them on the web, but I don't think they'd even let you off even if you haven't taken any "bad" shots.

I think what it really set the police off was that they couldn't check the images on the spot, and it made the guy "really" suspicious.

Once i took some shot near a construction site with a P&S camera. A hard-hut guy questioned me about it. As i was someone who takes pictures of crans and stuff to make a masterplan or something.

When i offered my camera to him, he got embarassed.

Whatz goin on? Bad guy's have spy gear you wouldn't even know they shoot the hair out of your nose. This is gettin insane.

That's fine the pollice couldn't have checked it there and then, but surely give it 1 hr processing meant that it shouldn't have even made the news... I mean there's some level of embarrassment to the photographer to be named in the papers for something that he was allegidly doing but proven otherwise. Guilty until proven innocent by the press.

Andrew Nemeth has written up a great article on the rights of photographers in NSW here:

http://www.4020.net/unposed/photorights.shtml

It's really useful to know what you legally can and cannot do, and also your rights as a photographer.

(forgive my leftie libertarianism bent for a sec)
Would you really? No one elected the police (or, tangentally, the OFLC either for that matter).

The time I was busted for being a "terrorist" I did show them my images, and I'm not sure it was the right thing to do.

  1. On one hand, if the quickest path to not sharing a cell with Hicksie is showing them my modest but nice images, well so be it.
  2. If showing them my images helps to set a new norm whereby others are less at liberty to shoot on beaches, and later other public places, I have to ask myself if it is the right thing to do.

Raises some interesting questions...

Even press photographers are having trouble:

Interesting article Chris. I wonder when they will start banning the fans from taking Cameras to sporting events and the like.

For me (Just got the new Intel Mac Pro Quad) it has sped up about 3-4 times.

Well, well worth it in my eyes...

Love my new computer....

I'm looking at the 1Ds II now... time for some serious saving though.

Chris.

out of curiosity what hardware are you running Smelly?

I've got 2G ram, Pentium D 3Ghz, SATA raid & PS swaps to it's own dedicated disk (WEI 4.8)... it's fast, but if there is faster on offer, i'm always interested.

What else are you guys running PS on?
