I finally found some locals. Everyone on FM seems prodominately from the US. If you guys are thinking of heading to Tamworth for the country music festival let me know. I live just under an hours drive from Tamworth. BTW, if you are planning on going book your accomodation early (a good time to book is straight after the country music festival) or if you like camping you can pitch a tent/park a caravan at my place.
If anyone is in the Tamworth area, send me an email or PM. It would be good to have a fellow FMer close by. Especially as I am about to take the big plunge in to dSLRs.
There are a lot of pages through this thread and I am trying to read it through. If anyone could help me, I am looking for an insurer to cover equipment, public liabilty and workers comp?
I need the equipment insurance as I don't want to shell out if anything happens to the new gear. Public liabilty if someone cansee where they are going and workers comp because my primary employer requires it (before they will give their approval for secondary employment). I will be setting up as a one-man show on event photography and if all goes well I can say goodbye to my primary employer.
with insurance i take out equipment insurance with NRMA's home contents insurance but listed as "specified portable valuable"
There's an article in a recent issue of Capture magazine which has good info on where to get equipment insurance + public liab + other stuff as a package (for professionals).... don't know where the magazine is now
Hi webcase, Mozzman & Zane Yau thanks for the welcome.
Zane Yau - I will try to pick up a copy of Capture and call the publisher they may be able to send me a copy. Do you have any idea when the article was publilshed (recently or beginning of the year)?
I was going to contact NRMA as we have our home insurance with them, so hopefully it should be a simple matter of upgrading the coverage. Even if I only insure it with them for the remainder of this financial year.
PS I will have to wait until I get home to view your pics. Work does not like some hosting sites so pics are blocked.
Because my budget is limited, I am thinking of dropping the 14mm that I was going to purchase to allow me to buy an extra battery, extra 580EX and an imagetank from Vosonic. I think that the 14mm would get limited use and the others would be invaluable. Is there any reason for me to rethink my new purchase plan.
I really can't remember which issue of Capture. But I only just started subscribing since the PICA show in April, so i guess it would be one of the last three issues (they are bi-monthlys)

Can I ask another question now?.........
Bad luck, I am going to ask anyways.

you can ask, but i m not sure if anybody, apart from yourself, can answer your question...
Will 24mm be wide enough on the 1.3 crop 1D2N? what's your priority?
When you have the answers, you go ahead and buy them accordingly mate
I figure that 24mm (31.2mm) should get me out of most situations. As I will mainly be targeting sporting events to start with.
I already have a tentive booking for a wedding and thought that having an ultra wide would be most useful. (not real keen to do wedding, they are trying to settle on a date then come back and talk about my availability...and if I have changed my mind about shooting the wedding)
The other thing I want to shoot is landscapes which was another reason for the UW.
Now that I have seen it in type, I am more convinced that I will be getting more bang for my buck by dropping the 14mm from the shopping list. I was just after a sounding board to check my logic.
Shadow i can't help you as far as lense selection but eos lenses seem to be easy enough to get rid of on ebay and the like if they don't work out for what you want.
