The Imaging rule is this: it's OK to take a spontaneous photograph of any person who looks as though they would be able to take a picture of us in another time and place. We draw the line at snapping people who look as though they will never be able to scrape together enough money to buy a camera.
[...]

which means if you don't want your spontaneous photograph to be taken, don't take spontaneous photographs of others

Lucky I didn't have to pay $5 to everyone I snapped

i have in Vietnam... went to a village, i had to buy stuff from local girls in order to photograph them. Nicole spent about $7AUD, bought pillow cases, bracelets and stuff from the girls and I had about 10 girls to photograph, but it wasn't a direct cash transaction.

Also paid about 50 cents cash to an old lady to get a few portraits

Never done that in OZ... maybe I don't want someone to come to me, pay me 2 bucks and ask me for a portrait heheheh

Show us the photos and see whether they are worth the money!?

hahahaha... give me time mate to process them... I am planning to go to Vietnam again in Christmas, so I may wait until then to 'release' all the viet photos

it's not hard for a few portraits to worth 50 cents right hahahah

Thanks Zane for the great photos.

My 30D (which i had for about 4 months) is back at the factory. One of the focus point isn't working properly. I took it to canon at north ryde, they "checked" it with some sort of "machine" behind closed doors and said everything's working fine. Clearly, the focus point couldn't even lock on subjects with good contrast. I had to take it back the 2nd time and show them what i meant with a lens attached.

Anyway, anyone had problems with their focus points not locking up consistently? does it usually require a major repair job?

I have to say canon are pretty hopeless when it comes to providing warranty service. The girl at the front desk wasn't the nicest either...

Zane they are absolutely magnificent . Great shots . #6 #8 and #9

Richard . Sorry to hear about your camera . Does anyone know if there is anyone outside of Canon who can repair there gear. I don' think i've ever read a positive review from anyone other than working pro photogs , who it seems get preferential service from Canons service department .

Thanks Tony and Richard

Richard - that happened to my ex-20D before - one of the AF points is not locking... but the problem disappeared after a months of use.

the front desk people at Canon needs a bit of training definitely - last time i took my 70-300IS in for the 'recall' repair. I rang and said I am taking in my 70-300IS lens for repair, the girl went "which camera is that?"

Zane, I love your photos from Vietnam, very realistic feel of the country. I love the first shot, great contrast between rich and poor in VN. Maybe you should wait until the New Year festival to go back, you'll love it.

Hi Tri - thanks for the suggestions - I was thinking of going back in the Lunar New Year, however I can't take leave during that period. Christmas is the best time for me and wife to travel. I would love to photograph an Asian city during the Lunar NY if I can...

Is it that good to buy cameras online I'm still skeptical on these sorts of things. I can't get to touch and feel it before wear the credit card out or something.

Btw, there is a $500 cashback on the 5D at the moment!! and you have to pay for a grip at almost $500.
