Thanks Tony, there has to be some advantage to not being able to read the warning signs all over the car you are driving.. make me feel that much safer
Nice Eye candy from the Autosalon Dicky ( and the girls are not too bad either ) but why oh why do they cut holes in the bonnets of lovely GT Falcons to stick horribly impractical aircleaners on
Nah... pretty much the usual riceness. Not many would see the light of day let alone a racetrack with all the mods.
Wasn't it the trend in the 60's to cut holes in the bonnet to fit bigger throttle bodies and air cleaners like the American cars? Then again, it's hard to find a "genuine" GTHO that'd be molested in that way. That one's probably a tarted up one to look like a GTHO.
Zane I know enough Arabic to get me into trouble, as with living anywhere the first words they want to teach you are all the profanities.
As far as what is it like.. Oh boy it can be frustrating and irritating at times, but the flip side is every so often (rarely) very rewarding. The rest would take a novel to describe.
I'd love to go and just sit and take photographs in the street. The biggest problem with doing that is, as far as I am aware, photography in public places is still illegal. I did read about them thinking of "relaxing" the rules regarding photography but nothing concrete.
Over here they tend to get a little bit stressed about photographs anyway. Things like Mosques, Govt buildings, Women, Families, the list is almost endless. Then if someone takes offence at you capturing their image they will report you to the Police and that opens up a whole new world of hurt. Especially with the level of security that exists here. We have check points all over the place, Just on the street where the housing compound I live on is there are 2 before the gates and they are all armed and fortified.
Camera Phones created a huge uproar, there were cases of women taking photographs at weddings and then sending them onto male relatives. Some woment have been bashed at weddings because of camera phones etc. For a few months after they first raised the questions aboutthem they were illegal as well and you could have yours confiscated atthe Airport if they noticed it.
I am getting photos where and when I can. Bahrain looks pretty good for Photos, next trip over I will take my camera and see what I can get. The Bahrainis are ALOT more relaxed about life than the Saudis.
Rest assured any shots I get I'll let you all know about
Thanks Chris, we don't want to see shots of you being bashed, though...careful not to point your lens at the 'wrong' subject!!
reminded me of my trip to Malaysia, there's a stupid idiot in my group who pointed his Nikkor 80-200 2.8 at an armed soldier and went "1,2, 3 ...fire..." Scared shxt out of everyone else......he thought that he's funny.
My dad had to fly his plane up to Sydney for a major service yesterday, so I went with him and we went for a scenic flight along the coast before we dropped it off - it was a lot of fun.
Unfortunately it wasn't great for photography because it was very hazy yesterday - also I had to shoot though the Perspex windows which added reflections, lens flares and further haziness...
Anyway, here are a few photos I got that I was happy with. I have converted them to black and white and upped the contrast to try to cut through the haze.
Wow.. amazing shots of the city from the air... I must say aerial shots are very fancy... Can't open the doors?? I think they were back burning yesterday afternoon hence the haze.
Teon: nice work there. #3 is stunning. Great oppertunity being up there with a camera.
Smelly: I'm just here for dictation / I don't wanna be a sensation - Sonic Youth, "Swimsuit Issue" - I like the GT 351 girls because like webcase said they scream car show.
Ed: Nice ink! I dunno how I feel about the b/g, reminds me of Chromakey? IMHO with tats on gals it's a real fine line between beautiful and horrible. This is nicely done.
Thanks for the comments guys. On a clear day I would love to go up in a helicopter with no doors to grab some photos, but I think that would be too expensive
On another note I was messing around in photoshop today for fun. If you want to see what I would look like as a vampire you can take a look here.
Oh and I took a look at your pbase site Smelly - nice photos! - I love these two:

Off on Horrordays today. Heading for two weeks in Sri Lanka. Camera ready CF Cards formatted and I brought a Creative Zen Vision. It has a CF slot on the side so I can download photos straight into it. The Zen has a 30 Gig Hard Drive in it and a good battery life. Oh and it plays video and MP3s as well . Not planning on anything fancy and will shoot mostly large JPEG.
Going to be doing the Old Capitols, Safari type stuff, fingers crossed for a Leopard shot, Lots of Hefalumps. Then the usual Tea factory stuff and Galle which looks fabulous. It is an Old Portugeues city on the Southern coast. Will post photos when I get back and sort them.
