No wonder things are slowing down a wee bit at times
Great Price.....I am really thinking about picking a 30D up really soon myself.
Fletchers at Castle Hill had the 30D for $2200, the 5D for $4999 & the D200 for $2890.....had a good look at all of the them....& could have taken any of the them home with me 5D is very nice ( love that viewfinder....shame it had taken this long to get a viewfinder as good as my old EOS 30 fim body though !! ) & can certainly see the appeal of the D200 - it simply oozes quality...if I was a Nikon man I would be all over this baby But for the dollars & even though it still comes accross as a wimpy upgrade to the 20D, the 30D is pretty hard to beat for value.
Great to see we are actually getting stuff in Australia 1) the same time as the rest of the world & b) for a realistic price !! For once, it may actually be cheaper to buy the camera in Oz than buy it in the US, ship it, pay GST etc & still be cheaper than Oz prices !! Look at 24-70 f2.8L vs 24-105 f4L IS....in the US the 24-105 is more expensive than 24-70.....out here the 24-105 is around $1700, but the 24-70 is still $2000+ !! Just wish they would go back & "correct" some of the old prices for gear now
On a different note.....anyone here going to the Rally of Canberra ?? Any advice photography wise from any previous attendees ??

Cameras Direct http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/ is a good place to have a look at they have some good prices on stuff the Canon 70 - 200 f2.8 IS L (ABCZXYM etc) is only a couple of hundred AUD dearer than the AUD price for a US brought one.
Camera House Parramatta had one for $1785 I think.....DirtCheapCameras.com.au also has it for $1780. For these dollars I won't have to buy one from B&H in the US.......unlike the 300 f4L IS

From the cameradirect.com.au site:
STOP PRESS: VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
Some of our valued customers would have noticed (and i have spoken with many of you) that we have had to cease sales of canon gear for a short time. The reason - there is a government body called the ACMA - they are responsible for policing regulations pertaining to EMC (electronic magnetic) emissions from anything that is remotely electrical or electronic. Canon bodies and the USM motors in the lenses (we have found out) emit EMC bla bla. Now the thing is this - Canon have already tested the gear and certified that it meets CE (the european standard which is fine for australia) standards and if you look on any canon gear you have you will see it has a mark that looks thus "CE". BUT as in this case we are the importer and not canon australia (in most cases) then we have to REtest the gear (and yep you guessed it - at considerable cost) to reprove that the items meet the standard. The consequence of selling the gear without doing so will now cost us a fine of $10000 per item. SOOO we now have our own C tick number and mark of N15394. All we need know is to complete the REtesting of canon gear.... we asked canon for a copy of the test results - which would have been fine for the ACMA but alas ... they said - too busy and no go away.
So as of 17th Feb 2006 we have about 2-3 weeks more test time - then assuming canon gear is safe ! we can ship you the items below - Until then to send any item out will cost us $10000 as i have already said.

True, I did marshal around that area and there does not appear to be too many places this year, maybe kowen is the place. Get in early to see and photograph the jumps (if you are that way inclined.
