Everyone seems to be busy lately. Here are a couple more with the Circular polarised filter. Is it possible to make the entire sky darker, it seems like i could only do it to part of the sky. Both shots are taken at 16mm. Am i doing something wrong with the filter?
Hm, the sky looks pretty ugly like that. It looks to me like you're pointing the lens in the right direction, so I wonder if you've got a dud polariser.
My guess it just needs a bit more twisting . I have one but haven't used it a hell of a lot as in the cameras LCD its difficult to tell if you got it right or not . Trial and error though .
you don't have a light meter, do you? you can set the flash to manual and take a few test shots to gauge correct exposure. it'll be consistent as long as you don't move the lights around too much.
watch out for shiny things like the top bezel of the walkman. also watch out for reflective things like the round bit on the bottom of the walkman stand.
No light meter... Remember I got a poor 420EX.. no manual control except FEC. I've set it down a few stops for that shot I think... but point taken. Maybe the best is have a light box around to get a good even light shining on it. I had a bit of problem trying to get the screen part looking OK though.
Some were taken when it was pitch dark.. so the IR helped focusing.
ahhh, I forgot that you only had the 420ex, sorry. you could use a hot light (like a desk lamp) instead, and set the white balance accordingly. You should get fairly diffuse shadows if the lamp is sitting close enough to the subject.
Richard i think those pics are good and all CPLs are pretty much like that. i am guessing the sun is getting low in the sky (hmm...say 2 hrs before sunset) that's why you get the uneven blue
i like the idea of the third photo, but have you tried one with the rock focused and grass blurred? I saw some blurred curves of the rock which may help the photo a bit
Can you fill me in as to why you use a 30second exposure for your product shots also is the flash on or off camera. It seems that the shadow is from behind in the photo of the lens

I got bored one weekend and constructed one of these https://www.fredmiranda.com/A18/
I used foam board for the shell and for the diffuser a cover off an a4 binder from Office Works. It improved the light dramtically but need to get a flash cord and get it off the camera.
