I bought mine to have a very light zoom. Little did I know that Fred would test it against CV 40/1.2 and Sigma 45/2.8 and that the little zoom would rule! 😀

That makes lot of sense. There was talk about them developing lenses for a7c line.
A longer lens in this style would make the a7c (any Sony really) seriously tempting for hiking. Something like a 70-200mm f/4.5-6.3 or even a 75-150mm -> ca 400-450g and about 11cm length. Similar to the Canon RF f/4, but not as heavy.
Sony will definitely do more small lenses for this line of camera(s). They must be noticing the success of Tamron zooms. If they can do f2.8 lenses so small and light, Sony can do better. Imagine a F4 series thats half the size of Tamron zooms.
I got this lens thanks to @fred miranda for these comparisons. Its really good and sharp. Its not a kit lens at all as they go. My Nikon AF-P 18-55 is very sharp but this is much better. I don’t remember my 24-105 being this good when i had it. What’s going on here
I was about to put the 28-60 Zoomus Prime on for sale. Glad I check this thread before making that decision. May just keep it. I am getting the Sigma 35/2 and already have the 20G. There is redundancy...
I'm amazed about the size of this lens. When collapsed, it is even smaller than the Sigma 45.
Haven't done any extensive testing yet but so far looks really good in terms of image quality.
I was also one of those who planned to sell the lens. That won't happen any time soon. It is an excellent performer within its limits -FL and aperture. But for light carry about it is excellent.
John, I bought one specifically for IR but the weather has been really bad. I will pair this with the Tamron 17-28, to go with the IR converted A7III, the two lenses are pretty light,
I'm quite upset that it doesn't start at 24mm, but the optics seem quite good. BUT, it still doesn't start at 24mm. Dear Sony, you can redeem yourself by making a complimentary 16-28mm pancake. Please and thank you.....
Good to see an inexpensive zoom in the approximate 28-70, 28-85 range that performs really great. Seems like everything has been 2.8 or esoteric somehow lately and mostly I just need a good performance lens that doesn't break the bank and isn't too heavy. I shoot at f/8 or so a lot anyway.
John, I just received my infrared (NM830 conversion) A7III today and put on the Sony 28-60 to try it out. The hot spot issue with the lens is pretty bad, big circle right in the center. Maybe I should try a wider aperture to see if it improves.
The lens is pretty excellent already from wide open, I’m sure with IR you could get away with wider aperture values. I bought one to use with my full spectrum A7r and Kolari Aerochrome IR filter, hoping to replace the very large Contax 35-70 I use now. Just waiting for a step down ring and I’ll go from there. Preliminary shots though it seems pretty good.
It is not shocking. It is not only the hotspot but also the transmission itself may be lower due to the coatings. Do try the FE 28/2. Just fabulous, especially for IR.
