p.1 #1 · Classic Man

A portrait I shot of my friend Bassel. He's also a photographer, and we became friends after he volunteered to assist me on a different photo shoot. After that shoot I asked if he would be interested in letting me take some creative portraits of him, to which he answered yes, and a few days later we met up again and I took these portraits of him in a parking garage in downtown Portland.

These were shot using natural light and a silver reflector for fill light. I used the original Canon 5D with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens attached.

f/4.5, 1/125th sec, ISO 800.

f/4, 1/500th sec, ISO 800. I realize that many photographers don't like this shot because of the blown highlights. Coincidentally, that's one of the reasons why I do like it.

Well, isn't that what you get when hair isn't there to receive wrapped light as a 'hair light'? I'm good with both images, though a little more emotion might be good. His well-manicured beard adds style.
