So, I often leave my camera on my desk while at work...I just like having it there. Anyway, a few times now, my R6 will just randomly power on by itself, open the shutter and then close the shutter. It's not recording the exposure, but you can hear the shutter activate. This is after sitting off for a fair bit of time (hour+).

I'm assuming this is normal, but I am wondering if everyone else has noticed this. Does it just randomly take black frames for pixel mapping here every so often?

Several years ago I had that happen occasionally, then it went away. Never figured out why, but one theory was that it was getting random triggers from WiFi - maybe try putting it in airplane mode?

Maybe you should call a pastor or something? maybe this is a spying feature?

I mean I kinda doubt it but I leave WiFi off anyway. Is the lens cap on just in case? Maybe a more likely reason, if I do a sensor cleaning in menus on my camera it fires the shutter 2x. But idk kinda weird, it'd bother me

This would freak me out so badly. I'm going to be keeping a closer eye on my R5

After looking in a little deeper - I do think it's related to the bluetooth connectivity. If I open the app and connect directly, it opens the shutter on power up, and closes it when I disconnect and quit the app. I imagine what's happening is the wireless app is touching base with the camera and then disconnecting. Sounds exactly the same as what I've experienced.

You're saying it powers on when the switch is off? Or when it's just asleep? The shutter on Canon mirrorless models is closed when powered off, correct? I wonder if it's possible your shutter is sticking open when you turn it off, then it closes on its own later, and that's what you're hearing?

Yes, this makes more sense than what I just suggested

It's probably being hacked. Maybe you can store the camera in a Faraday bag when not in use and remove the battery pack just to be sure.

A pastor can be a great spiritual leader, but you need a priest to perform the holy rituals associated with exorcism.

My R5 shoots unlimited 8K videos without over-heating, while turned off

Artificial intelligence trying to learn something new?

Mirrorless can't see when it is off.

Your DSLR doesn't do this because it can still see through the lens when the power is off.

I'd probably turn off WiFi first for one thing it's really easy. I'd be concerned if it worked, though

It really sounds like an intervalometer, though, so I'd look at the built in intervalometer.

The thread came up in a search when my R6 suddenly started doing the same thing.

I switch the camera off and the shutter closes. Then some time later, I'll hear shutter sounds. I was finally able to reach the camera quickly enough and see that the shutter was open. Then a few seconds later it closed again.

I used to keep my camera in airplane mode but recently started using the GPS via phone and have been leaving the Bluetooth and Wifi enabled. I think that's when it started randomly cycling the shutter. My phone is also nearby but I don't have the Canon app up when this happens.
