How is this lens not more popular here? Reminds me a lot of Nikon 58mm 1.4G and Sony 85mm 1.4G.
This with the old 35mm 1.4 is a portrait photogs dream, I am really thinking about switching from Sony.
Agreed. I have both the old 35 1.4 and the 50 1.0. The 50/1 is probably my favorite lens of the entire x-system lineup.
For some reason, the 56 1.2 gets all the love here..
I think people are just turned off by the size. I shoot GFX and X so it's really not any real issue for me, but I can see if you're used to tiny lenses like the Fujicrons, the 50/1 seems completely out of line with a small X-system setup.
It may depend on the X-series body people use as well.. X-E, probably not a great match.. but even on something like the X-S20 it fits like a glove, IMO.
It's not popular here because it's "big" I like it more than the 58 1.4 I used to have (granted I probably had a bad copy of it) GoroMajima wrote:

I love the 50 it is the biggest lens I have, even bigger than my Nikkor 85 1.4D but I never pay much attention to the size once I'm using it in a session.

The lens is enormous compared to the 56 f1.2.
It really is one of those cases where it's probably better just to go all out with a high-res FF body plus a FF 85 1.8 or 1.4 unless you prefer Fuji 50 F1.0's rendering or have access to X-mount only.
I might actually prefer this lens over the OG 56 1.2. I do want the new WR, but I'm not exactly in a rush for it. The 1.0 has been doing pretty good for what it is and I also have the 90F2 if I want more portrait compression. It's not a junk lens, it's just not popular. mdude85 wrote:

I personally consider it to be a posed portrait lens. Like the AF works, but I wouldn't call it a sports lens. You can basically hear the thing trying to keep up with movement when your burst stutters. newyork wrote:
How’s the AF on this lens
If you have an interest in it I would recommend it though. Been using it for months and while I have complaints none of them are bad enough to tell someone to not get it. newyork wrote:
I see. Makes sense.
