p.1 #1 · Meanwhile, back at the ranch......

A lot of photography folks around here have been "focused" on the color changes going on in nearby Glacier NP (and for good reason). Meanwhile, back at home on the Rez, a couple hours south of the Park, we had a great sunset Thursday night. This was taken a little after sunset when the clouds and mountains (in the east) were reflecting the deep reds of the fading colors in the west (almost like an alpenglow).

Sometimes, one need look no further than one's own backyard!

Thanks for looking

This looks pretty Doug. Slightly more magenta than I like. But it still looks nice.

Too much magenta and too obvious dodge & burn.

But of course a really beautiful shot!

Gautam:

Thanks.
Perhaps - I'll work one up with less and see if I like it better - thanks for the suggestion.
The light was actually rather magenta, though. It was well after the actual sunset and those clouds were picking up a very red/magenta light from the fading colors on the opposite horizon. So this is a post-sunset, sunset image.

Cheers

Doug

Thank you Dan.

Yes, the teepee was the focus. After all, I live on a reservation.
There used to be 2 teepees here earlier, but for some reason there is only one now. You can still see the poles to the left of the remaining one.

This is actually a pond behind a restaurant right on the highway here and I have photographed it lots of times over all seasons. As you know, the light is never the same twice.

Here are a couple from other times - one early April, and a wider view from early June (both pre-teepee)

Thank you for your kind words, Dan.

Yes, this reservation is very beautiful and the Tribe here is quite progressive. It was the first reservation to establish a Tribal Wilderness (those mtns in the photos) and Glacier National Park is less than a 2 hr drive north, to boot! And there is something, indeed, about the sky here - very "big".

I am so glad to hear a proud "Nation" is progressing! Their plight has not been really recognized nor addressed IMHO!
Beautiful area! You did them proud!

Gautam:

I went back and looked at my LR work upon that photo. The tint slider (magenta) was at zero, and I did not add any magenta/purple in the HSL sliders either.

As I said before, this is a view to the east well after sunset. In the west were the lingering deep reds that dominate after the yellows and oranges fade. (30 mins after sunset?). It was a bit underexposed, so I did have to lift it.

So, it is what it is I guess.

Thanks again

Doug

Thanks for that Doug. I like the shot enough to not think about it much actually. That short window post sunset is when I do most of my photos as well.

Cheers,
Gautam
