Don't confuse an abrupt response to inaccuracy, misinformation, or poorly-worded statements with being an asshole. But he has always responded to my occasional emails (usually within an hour regardless of when I sent them), even when I wasn't subscribing to anything. Also to correct what others have posted here, his reviews are nothing like his blog. A blog is just that – a place to vent about frustrations and what's happening at the moment. The reviews in his paid subscriptions are not the same tone.
As for overpriced, it's not in cases where you're looking to dive into an entire ecosystem. At one point I was going all manual focus Zeiss for my lenses and the reviews were invaluable. If you just want to know about one lens or camera, certainly you can find other reviews online for free.

Just ask him to stop sending you unsolicited emails after you stop subscribing, and you'll quickly find out what an asshole he is...
