Nice to see this image thread. I recently ordered the pair of SY 35 f/1.8 and 75 f/1.8 and anxious to give them a try. These will compliment my Tamron zoom trio.
just received this lens from the amazon warehouse today. it came with firmware v1, and missing the case, i mentioned it to amazon and they gave me 20% off the lens price for the missing case, so i ended up getting the lens for 240 out the door. So far so good, i immediately updated the firmware with my lens station, and id say its very sharp wide open. ill go test it out for real later this week.
I may still pick up this lens. I sold my 85mm 1.8 FE and ended up with the 70-300mm Tamron. I still wouldn't mind owning the Samyang 75mm though for when I want something smaller.
I bought the Rokinon version at Adorama, which is currently $100 off. Mine should be here in a few days along with the 35 f/1.8 that also included the dock.

Got my 35 and 75 f/1.8 lenses today, and good thing I got the dock as the 75 only had V1 of the firmware, which I updated to V3. Here are a few of the first shots, first one wide open and second stopped down to f/3.2 with the 75mm.

First: if you want to update the firmware, you need the dock (which isn’t expensive). The updating process is easy.
Second: of course you can perfectly use most/(all now?) of the Samyang lenses without a firmware update and achieve great results. I used a lot of them and the vast majority worked perfectly straight out of the box. Basically, of all my Samyang lenses only the 45 1.8 had major issues that really needed fixing. But the update was there only a short time after it went on sale. Of course you can expect that it works perfectly right from the beginning. But well, sxxxx happens (with many brands).
So don’t panic. I cannot think of a Samyang lens spontaniously that – if bought today out of latest production – would demand a firmware update. However, as I said, they keep on pushing very aggressively to make their products better (which doesn’t mean that they were bad before), so if there’s a firmware update that improves something, it’s welcome.

Is the dock a must to update the firmware?
Yes, but the dock was included with my 35mm f/1.8 as a kit at no extra charge. Updating the firmware was very easy to do- mount lens to dock, connect USB cable to computer and the software downloads and installs the firmware.
Its sharp, it focuses faster than the 85 GM it replaced, much easier to carry around, but wish its minimum focus distance was shorter, since its a little looser than the 85. for what i paid, its a keeper.

thanks for the answers. Looks like docks are about $80 + shipping and tax. Not impressive. I guess I’ll just stick with firmware v1.
