He is awesome on so many levels. Such an interesting and useful review. Freakin oastler just kept talking about diffraction at f32. I have owned every tamron e-mount zoom at some point, but will skip this one i think

Does anyone know when this lens ships? I know that Tamron initially announced October 29, but my pre-order (that I plan to use with the a7c) is still labeled as "backordered." Thanks!

Test shots from today with my daughter. Busy testing it for a review. Not bad considering the price point. Birds weren't listening to my pose requests.

I just received a new 70-300mm lens and the focus ring feels fairly grainy. Little random bits of resistance as I turn it. If I hold my ear up I feel like I can just barely hear tiny sounds when it meets the resistance. Is this normal?
In contrast, my Tamron 28-75mm is much smoother all the way around, though when changing direction I feel a very slight resistance. It's of course not nearly as dampened as say my Sony lenses.

Mine feels and sounds a little gritty--more than the 70-180 and 28-200. I can't say I've used the focus ring outside of chart testing.

Just got notified mine arrives tomorrow for testing for a review. Will also have a copy of the 28-200 to test with it side by side.
How did they end up comparing? The 28-200 seems surprisingly impressive, though I don't have a need for the 28-70 part of it. I saw your 28-200 review with a size comparison to the 70-300 but nothing else?
I'm interested particularly telephoto landscape apertures in the corners from 100-200, and even cropping (with a hi-res body) the 28-200mm vs the 70-300mm at 300mm.
Would like want some sort of smaller/lightweight AF telephoto zoom landscape option instead of always having to bring a 100-400mm. Sony 70-300 seems better than the Tamron 70-300 but the weight is too close to the 100-400.
