"Sony Japan has announced it’s halting production of two more cameras due to the ongoing chip shortage. Sony Japan also confirmed it is no longer producing another pair of cameras as an end-of-li

In a statement posted to Sony Japan’s website, Sony says it is no longer fulfilling orders for its a7C full-frame mirrorless camera and its a6600 APS-C mirrorless camera, as ‘there is a delay in procurement of parts for digital imaging products due to the global shortage of semiconductors.’ Sony even suggests current orders could go unfulfilled, saying ‘in addition, some orders will be suspended.’ Sony Japan says it will keep retailers and consumers updated on the supply status via the product pages on its website for the respective products."

Very mixed messages. Suspended or discontinued.

I received my A7C only yesterday. I am very happy with it so far, so I hope it won’t go away for good or that it is at least superseded by an A7C mk2.

Sony suspended acceptance of new orders because of component shortage currently (as they did with ZV-E10 earlier). I don't think they have any intent to discontinue A7C or ZV-E10 as they are still pretty new and popular but not sure how the component supply situation will change going forward. I'm still very happy with my A7C after 1+ year of active use. 24MP is a sweet spot for me and I'm not feeling that there's anything missing on the original A7C for me. EVF could be bigger and with more resolution but I think it would compromise the size of the camera to some extent so I think the current version is pretty fine as it is. I wouldn't need more resolution or more control dials. If there was a stacked sensor with a fast readout like A9 but with better dynamic range at base ISO (e.g. like A1 but 24MP) it would be ideal for me but I don't think such a version is realistic in the very near future in this category and it could be much more expensive.

The first full frame rangefinder-style Sony body, with a limited production run...nice to see that I now own a collector's item

Its definitely in demand. Maybe margins are lower in a7C and they are prioritising premium products to deal with component issues. a7C does sound like a body with many parts unique to it rather than a common pool of parts for multiple bodies, eg, EVF, smaller IBIS system etc…

On the camera itself, i also find it a sweet spot. It may just be the last new body with 24 megapixels. Great speed, without being an a9II, great files and eye AF, great high ISO envelope. And most of all, small !

Neighbor across the lake's dog, running full bore across the dam to see us (Me and my miniature Schnauzer). Kinda intimidating as the Pyrenees gets closer but this giant is super friendly and loves playing chase with Loki.
A7C maintained 19 of 20 in focus frames with the little green square on the eye the whole time.....this with an MC-11 adapter+EOS 400/5.6.

We walk daily and this is my new favorite walkabout combo (the A7c and the ancient Canon). 400 to me really is the minimum for wildlife encounters and this old lens is light and small to carry. I have the advantage of the high ISO performance of the A7C which is important in my dark dank wet woodland surround. My best guess is that AF and AF-C tracking with this adaptation is 95% native.

Though the 7iv and a1 are here the a7c is still my daily walkabout. This shot in the Nat.Forest abutting the house. Getting my daily steps in; good for me and the little beast. This was also a week before the big snow storm that hit us (still 8 inches of snow in the driveway).

Just got the A7C - and the goofy little 28-60 kit lens - used in this SOOC image of my dog - 60mm 5.6 1/500

Sony A7C - purchased as a backup camera. (first impression review)

It's still a bit early, and my main camera is a 61mp Sony A7RIV - so going back to the ancient days of 24mp is painful - but this is a backup camera (for me) so I won't obsess too much over it. It will CYA in emergencies - and then some! The small EVF takes some getting used to - I shoot exclusively through the viewfinder so this also means the (very large) battery life is going to be insanely good! (The LCD flips complete around backwards to face in flat - among other positions - and can't be scratched (no display in that position).

The camera's small size is amazing - particularly with the tiny little 28-60 kits lens (which I bought on a lark, used/refurb for $250) The IQ from this little lens is pretty decent but have to admit it seems like a toy coming from nothing but top shelf "big" glass! Somehow despite the camera's small size it feels good in the hand and the build is like a little tank.

With a small lens of your choice, this is truly a go anywhere camera - perfect for travel or stealth shooting. Also perfect to carry as a second body at an event shoot for dual lenses/focal lengths. For jollies, I put some of my big glass on it. While it doesn't make the viewfinder any bigger (ha ha), the body can easily handle the size and weight of big lenses. It packs quite a punch in such a small package!

Small viewfinder and low 24mp resolution are my only negatives so far. Cramming the FN menu icons to the RH side is weird - but I can adapt. Pretty much everything else is positive - small size, great feel, compatibility with all my lenses and flashes, solid build, great IQ - it's going to encourage me to take a camera with me to many more places than I would otherwise take one - and it's fun to shoot - that's a good thing!

Front yard is mostly frozen. Hasn't been above freezing here for a week and single digits again tomorrow morning. But 40F is forecast for next Tuesday! Getting the bathing suit on!

I bought a lightly used one in the FM buy a sell forum. Found a used kit 28-60 to start with then picked up the 50/2.5 G. Love the size even with the small viewfinder. I was using a Fuji X-E3 and it’s viewfinder is the same specs so I knew what to expect. Since I’ve had it I’ve built a small kit around it with the excellent quality Sigma 35/2, 65/2, 90/2.8, and 28-70/2.8 DG DN lens family. Everything in this kit was bought used.

It doesn’t replace my Sony A1, A7RIV, or A9II or GM family of lenses but the small sling backpack is nice and light and lives in my car and is always with me. The fact that all the primes have aperture rings and the excellent tracking AF mean I don’t miss the front dial or the joystick even those would be nice to have. If the would do a 42 Mpixel versions with some ergo tweaks I would maybe upgrade to that.

Will see how it goes over the next few months. Has been worth the try.

Bought the camera some months ago after defecting to Fuji for a while. I must admit that I was positively surprised. Before owning it I was concerned about the lack of physical controls, in particular a front dial. Using it all I can say is that it has enough controls (in particular if you count the aperture ring in the lens) and all of them are in the right place. Working with teh camera is a joy and even better than with my Fuji X-E3. IQ and the rest of technical specs are great, of course.

I posted a few minutes back. Also have an X-E3 with the same size viewfinder and 24 Mpixels The A7C with Sigma I series lenses is probably going th have me sell off entire Fuji kit (X-T4, etc) that I own. Shot both Fuji and Sony FF since 2012.

Had an issue with my a7c (cyan color in highlights on the LCD), sent it in for repair, came back the same, now Amazon is doing a refund.

Just also bought a used Fuji X-T3 at a very good price. Will hold on to my Fuji gear as it serves a different purpose from my Sony FF cameras and lenses. Also, I have to admit that Fuji just feels "special", is really small, and does inspire me to go out and take photos.

I'd even consider the 33mpx sensor in the A7Cii.

Yes I like my Fuji kit. Besides the X-E3 I have an X-T4 but to be honest for the bodies the X-T4, while lighter is as big as my A7x family of Sony bodies. The older f/1.4 are smaller (I have the 14/2.8, 23/1.4, 35/1.4, 56/1.2. 90/2 for primes and several zooms) and now with the small Sigma I series its getting real close. Don't plan to sell the Fuji anytime soon but in a pinch you never know.
