I wouldn't mind a full blown review, really.

Sharpness is definitely not an issue from wide open on the A7R IV

Smooth rendering. The background is about 2 meters from subject:

Axial CA outside the focus plane similar to FE 85/1.4 GM wide open but there is a bit more purple fringing.

My most often shot aperture was f/2.2. It seemed to clean up a good portion of the PF and sharpened up a touch.

That second shot has terrific richness and crispness.

My 1.4x extender comes tomorrow—very curious to see the IQ.

Received the EA4 today and was surprised by how fast the AF was on both 200/2.8 and 100/2. Way faster than my 85/1.4 GM.

It's a bit heavy and bulky (166 grams). The EA5 will be 88 grams in comparison.

Can't say much about accuracy yet. Something else happened though. After using the EA4 adapter for a few shots, my A7R4's auto magnification (MF assist) stopped working for my E-mount AF lenses. I had to reset my camera to get it working again. Perhaps there is a firmware update for the adapter.

I'm on the fence to order the minolta 80-200 HS after these great news. If you can comment on accuracy and tracking with the old adapter it would be very useful. We should take it for granted that the new one will be better. The 80-200 will probably not be as perfect optically but they shouldn't differ much in terms of speed/accuracy/tracking.

That's strange indeed.

That is really weird. I like the rendering on the 200/2.8. I love the color and how it pops. It may have to be in my future. And its so very small. Sony really needs to make a 200/2.8 and a 200/2. Those would be such great additions, and do very well on aps-c bodies as well.

So odd. I did a quick google but didn’t see a similar issue. Does it happen repeatedly?

What firmware is the body? Does it happen with both lenses?

The AF on the 80-200 2.8 HS is extremely quick as well.

Its really quick, but I don't think I would use it for tracking. Its got a ton of torque.

I will use the EA4 again today and see if it was really the cause of the MF assist malfunction. Basically right after using the adapter for about 10 minutes, I switch to the FE 85/1.4 GM and would not get magnification when rotating the focusing ring in MF mode. Tried the Sigma 45/2.8 and 24/1.4 GM and got the same issue. (MF assist was ON). After reset it worked.
To be confirmed...

If you want quick, the torque of the 600f4 is incredible

You guys need to calm down here. This could be very expensive for me...first I'd need to upgrade my RII to an RIII at least...then I'd need the LA-EA5...Then I'd definitely need the 200 HS, the 100/2, maybe the 85/1.4, probably the 28/2....

In all seriousness, the photos look great. I'm looking forward to seeing more...

From what I have read, the A7R3 will not AF with those older screw drive lenses. Only the A7R4 and A6600.

So you're telling me I HAVE TO get an A7R4? That's very convenient information, thank you

And its so far.... is it because they have new processors? Will there be a firmware update to provide screw mounted af? Nobody knows. I am HOPING it comes to the a7III. But it is definitely not a sure thing. A great indicator would be if the a7c will support it, because it shares the same hardware as the a7III.

From a purely technical standpoint, that's kind of interesting. I wonder what the issue is? Power? Being able to provide enough torque? Is it PDAF related? Some sort of information pass through?
