I don't have any expectations but I'm hoping for a FF Pen-F equivalent, something suitable for the street shooters. Something like that could definitely eat into Fuji/Olympus' sales.

I fail to see the point of tiny APS-C size camera bodies
put a F1.4 fast lens, 24-70 zoom, 100-400, 200-600, or other larger lens on them and it is now front heavy, and not much to hold on to body wise
The A7III is even a too small if you do not have the added metal grip extension (GP-X1EM)
Many of use are not interested in large primes and high performance zooms.
There's a growing number of excellent small native glass options, tons of other small lenses to adapt.
I often shoot a 21/2.8, 35/2 and 75 1.8 that weigh in at 700g total.
There are plenty of options for larger bodies, both in mirrorless and DSLR land. There are very few/if any (depending on how one defines it), small FF ILC bodies available.
I think this camera, if the rumors specs are near correct, will be a huge success. Many of us have been pining for smaller bodies for years. It's a feature that I am willing to pay for, just as much as resolution or video or AF.

Different strokes for different folks.
But I understand some people prefer larger camera bodies and don't mind ginormous lenses.
But, a rangefinder style close to A 6600 size FF camera would be a dream for me and I also think it will be a huge success. And really different from the FF me too offerings of Canikon and Panny.

Who says anyone wants to put the 200-600 onto this compact FF camera? I'd love to put my 35 2.8 and 28 2.0 onto a compact full frame when traveling as a 2nd camera to my A7R3. With their presumed compact primes coming out with this camera...it makes for a great travel setup.
I have zero interest in big heavy 1.4 primes...no matter what camera I'd be sticking them onto.

I also like the prospect of a more compact FF body without the EVF hump. However I really hope they don't place the A6xxx style LCD on that. Even though it is nominally 3", the 16:9 aspect ratio makes it really small for still shooting. I would rather take a camera without EVF and larger LCD than a camera with A6xxx LCD.

I believe you are correct, the fact that they are going to bring a new compact flash, plus the range of the lens 28-60mm, color options, none of that has anything to do with video or vlogging, seems to be all about travel and street photography

Hoping for this as well. If it looked like a Pen-F or Fuji X-Pro/X-E cameras, that would be cool, but I’m ok if it’s a bit more modern in Sony fashion.
I only have the smaller Sony lenses and have chosen this strategically to keep my kit carrying options as compact as possible.

Not all FE mount lenses are big and heavy and not everybody wants to use those big heavy lenses. There are compact and light lenses available for the FE mount: Zeiss 55mm, 35mm pancake, 50mm f1.8, 28mm f2 and alternative options from third party manufacturers (Voigtlander, Rokinon/Samyang, etc.). There are many people who prefer a compact light camera combined with light and relatively small lenses over a bulky heavy setup. I for one, consider such camera very seriously if nothing else comes on the way.
The DSLR type crowd have been loud complaining about the ergonomics of Sony bodies but there are many Sony users who prefer a small compact ff body if it were available. They just don't roam the forums telling everybody about what they want or not.

I'm sure someone has thought of this, but I wonder if the A7c is going to effectively replace the A7III? So that we should not expect an A74 ever, just an upgrade of the A7c?
The idea would be that the mock SLR look would be preserved for the top bodies: video (s) and stills/hybird (r) and the lower end models will be the new mock RF look?
p.15 #10 · Pre-order: Sony A7C Compact Full Frame ($1,798)
I highly doubt this will replace A7 iii line which is by far the best selling line among Sony (ff?) bodies. A7 iv will be out in about a year or less. A7c must be a new line of camera bodies and if it sells well (like A7 series), Sony will continue the line.

It's an enigma, hence the wide scope of the speculation. Some heavy items - IBIS, fold out screen and vlog gear seem to rule out an RX1 size. Slow zoom, lens program (of lower standard optics) and flash suggest a quite separate mini-system. Their new vlog product got much more pre-release orders than expected, at $750.
But what extra does it offer to justify the hype? Especially for travel, if it goes for ~a7III price levels. The corner EVF is niche in the Sony a7 ecosystem, and does not work in well as a cross-body companion to a7 cameras. It may not be for us lot at all. The silver top model?

Does not need to be RX sized. The a7riv has gotten so big that I'd be happy if the a7c were the same size as the original a7 bodies. Zv1 has a fold out screen and is a P&S

I would buy a 42mp FF compact body with no IBIS, one card slot, striped down video functionality. Would make a great landscape backup camera. At a great price. A7III price. But I doubt the market is big enough for it.

Sony thought there was a market for the RX1R2, and what you describe, and I’d buy as well, is essentially a version of that where you can change lenses. I don’t think that’s too far-fetched, but who knows.

SAR reported a while back that a Sony rep had said they were looking to discontinue the A7II, as its old chassis and components were no longer profitable for them - at the seemingly always heavily discounted prices. What this might mean for the A7rII remains unclear, but if I were Sony, I'd be putting that 42Mpix sensor in the next A7rc!
So, I suspect Sony's strategy is to discontinue the A7II soon after the A7c announcement, and then move the A7III down in price to compete with the likes of the Nikon Z5 (as the A7III will be the inferior camera in terms of the old processor and menu's etc compared to the A7c).
Then Sony will announce the A7IV in the A7rIV/A7sIII body with the new processor, touchscreen menu's etc, but take it a bit more upmarket in terms of frame rate, 4K60p video etc - to compete with the likes of the Canon R6, with a price point closer to $2,500 also.
Then Sony will announce the A7rV to match the Canon R5 - you get the picture...

The form factor is "hype" enough for many. You may be surprised how many people have been looking for a FF camera in a smaller body. Even if it is not a lot smaller I personally enjoy the A6600 form factor more. It's not designed for pro use, hence no second slot needed. Never had 2 rolls of film in any of my camera's I'm not really sure how you can say the corner EVF is "niche" when there never has been one offered before with a FF sensor (except Rx1rII). So again. Not everyone is looking for big spec bumps every time they buy a new camera. Especially since this camera is going to appeal to the hikers, street, family, back-up, travelers... group of hobbyist and enthusiasts. Sony may market it as a "vlogger" camera but that is just a niche group they are pandering too in my opinion. The people that will actually buy this camera will be ones I listed above. They will determine it's success. Not "vloggers".

And the A7III is huge compared to small & compact lenses like the Samyang 18, 24 & 35, the ZA35/2.8, the Loxia's, the Batis 135, etc
Not everybody shoots with those huge lenses and there's already good solutions out there for the big lenses.
Folks have been asking for something sized comparably to the original A7 or smaller for a good long while for vlogging, street shooting and lightweight carry.
