Beautiful images - thanks for sharing them! My wife and I have spent at least half an hour discussing the peak and southern ridge line in #1. She feels that it is Mt Whitney’s east face with the Keeler Needles to the south. I’m less convinced as I remember the Keeler’s as taller with less slope at their base and Whitney’s east face with fewer ridges and a slightly more vertical nature. Unfortunately, I can’t offer her an alternative peak as it doesn’t fit my memory of Mt Russell’s eastern side either.
One of our earliest outings together was a failed attempt to climb Whitney’s east face back in 1974. Even though the climbing was straight forward and easy the exposure was more than we could handle!
If you don’t mind, I’d appreciate knowing the name of the peak. Either way (Whitney or another) will bring some bearing to the memories you’ve stirred up!
