Someone needs to stick a flir heat sensor in the camera& find out what is heating up...battery management would be my guess since it needs full power to run the sensor (the drop off w/ a low battery is telling). Besides increasing noise, LION batteries don't like heat. Yet no one is claiming the battery gets hot. If it gets really hot, the FAA may not allow it fly.

Canon actually implemented one further safety measure. Before it gets too hot the camera will lower the quality of the images you shoot in order to help extend the time before total shutdown. I suspect reviewers had completely missed this feature.

It isn’t a feature... it’s a warning that has been built in to the camera since at least the 5DsR. Every camera generates more noise as temperatures increase, the Canon just tells you about it via an indicator.
