A couple of weekends ago I went out on a backpacking trip with a couple of friends. The 4 Pass Loop is arguably one of the most scenic hikes in Colorado, so if you don't walk out with a few good shots it's on you. Hopefully I did it justice...

I actually don't know! I live outside of Denver and don't think I've ever encountered this stuff on the front range but it was all over this hike. I actually have been meaning to figure it out. Very interesting stuff. It was totally natural but it reminded me of the corn fields of the midwest where I grew up.

Its actually a plant called Veratrum californicum, sometimes also called false hellabore - rather poisonous - so no, not miner lettuce, which is Claytonia perfoliata.
