All shot at f1.4. Sharpness looks really good on my A9.
There is really not much LoCA I can see.
Shot at lot at full portrait distance and the bokeh looks pretty good. Nothing like sigma 40mm f1.4. Not the best I have seen but good enough for me. There is some outlining in the bokeh balls at those distance.
Only thing is the flare. I thought it seems to flare pretty easy even if the sun is not directly in the frame and I had the hood on for pic 6

I like what I see in those samples. Sure the lens flares when shooting into the sun like every other lens I know of but the CA (including purple fringing) is very low in those samples and every other review that I have seen. I do like the bokeh better from the GM, but I find the bokeh still quite good from this new Sigma Art.
All in all I think a very nice lens and this review doesn't change my thoughts at all. Some great samples actually is my predominant thought.
I see the lens at typical contemporary Sigma--high optical competence and build, very sharp and a clean rendering, cheaper than proprietary options, not as much character/personality as some other options.
I am sure people that like this type or rendering/proposition will be happy for this smaller version, while others will find the lens a bit boring though highly competent. Good to have options.

OK. Managed to get my daughter out before it started raining. So just tried to grab some photos all at f1.4 since I figured that'd be what most people want to see out of an f1.4 lens. This was real quick because it felt like 100 degrees out and then processed pretty quickly in C1.
Clouds were rolling over so it was good for a mix of light. We're also now in a downpour and I think will be for the rest of the day so I won't get back out until tomorrow.

Dang lemon ball highlights. Cats Eye
Its not bad until you get to image 5, cute shot thats not the problem its the upper left with cats eye highlights. That becomes distracting. Look forward to more images

BTW the Batis and Sony 1.8 do it worse
Yea there’s no question the cats eye is there and noticeable. But I feel like the edges aren’t quite as bad as they were on the Sony 1.8 when I had it. Also appears to be a bit more swirl than I had noticed in sample images that were posted. But I didn’t see too many full-body samples. This area under the trees is a photography torture test - there’s dappled light, different trees and shrubbery, uneven ground, etc. So I’ll go back there for more when weather permits.

Yes I do think its better than both the Batis and Sony for sure
Seriously everyone tries to do pretty when testing. I never do. I want the worst scene I come across so I can figure out how to handle it. Thats testing

All my test shots are full body shots distance or longer. Although I cannot get a model, u used the trash can as reference as it is half body height. Plus I purposely include trees which is the most problematic background.

I was referring to all the previous 4 weeks of sample images posted mainly by “influencers” and other reviewers that had the lens.

One thing I noticed is how little the LoCA is for a f1.4 lens. My old 40mm f1.4 art has less LoCA but bad bokeh. This 85mm f1.4 has decent bokeh and very low levels of LoCA. definitely low enough to be good enough for me.

My copy made it in today and it's a great lens. I've seen pictures comparing the size but was definitely surprised how small it was even boxed up. It's not perfect (as no lens really is) but will be perfect for what I need it for.

Order that was placed at Adorama on 8/6 shipped on 8/28 and arrived this morning.
Initial impressions are good. Very fast and silent AF, small overall size and build quality is the same as most other recent Sigmas, which is to say, great (28-70 dust issue notwithstanding). Light for a f/1.4 but dense and solid feeling. Aperture ring is welcome addition on a non-GM lens.
Will have a chance to take it through its paces for non-portrait uses over the next couple of days. I'll be selling the Samyang for sure, and still wondering if there's any reason to keep the FE 85mm f/1.8 for marginal weight savings.

I sold my 85mm f1.8. The weight is really not that big a difference once u mount it.
