Really like the second image though I feel the foreground is a bit overbearing. I think the foreground like that in the 3rd or 4th image would be better suited for the second image.
great shots! I will be staying not far from here next week and hope to get up to some of these peaks to get some shots. How crowded is it at sunset? whats the view like facing east?
Nice shots, Like John who posted above me, I'll be there in about a week and a half so it was nice to see the images. I'm looking forward to it. Do you prefer sunrise of sunset at that site? Maybe I'll even see you there.

Waterrock Knob might be overwhelmed with your average tourist for sunsets but it produces some of the best sunsets in WNC. One of the best places for sun rays as well, I’m lucky to only live 15-20 min from there. Beautiful shots!!

We can take turns fighting off the iphones to try to get some room for a good shot

HA! Fair enough. I end up walking around people with cell phones while I take photos of spoonbills and herons all the time around my house. I'm used to it. I'll be the one with a smile on my face but the steam coming out of my ears if they bump my tripod though.
Nice series. I live the layers in the first one. I prefer the dramatic sun rays in the third one better. Have you experimented with different framing or cropping?

I got home late Sat night and I'm about to go through the images. It rained every day we were there. I went up to Waterrock several times at night and the clouds covered the mountain most nights. I went to lower elevations but the color wasnt there. There was one night where we got some pastel colors so hopefully I can get something from that evening.
I think I got a few decent shots in the creeks but again the days were limited by rain showers. Everything was slippery. I did find some decent images of colored leaves that had fallen and one day I discovered a patch of wildflowers full of butterflies. I also got a few good elk images but the sunsets I'm afraid were a bust for the time we were there.
Cades Cove was a parking lot. It rained pretty much the entire time in the loop. No wildlife at all other than a few deer in the woods near the road. On the way back along the Gap, everything was fogged in so you really couldn't see much of the valleys or the mountain tops. It was a tough drive along the highway. I did stop and find a nice cascade of water that isn't on any map. I lucked out and pulled over to take a break from driving in the rain. I jumped out of the car and found the cascades not far from where I parked. I waited for the rain to let up some and fired off a few shots.
Ya never know about the weather. I think that area was hit with both of the storms that came up from the Gulf during the time we were in the area. Just bad timing but it happens. I still think I'll manage to get a few I'll be pleased with once I go through them all. I also noticed an old truck in a beat up shed along a path I walked not far from my cabin. That might end up being a decent image too. My instagram is at ksmmike. I'll post some images there from the trip later this week once I work them up.
I posted one sunset shot at Water Rock on my Instagram page at ksmmike. You can see it there if you like.
I'm working on a few creek shots that I'll post later in the week.
