Congratulations Geoff...
Well deserved "Featured Thread!"
This is a truly spectacular series in what looks to be near perfect light. I simply love the variety of images, the range of unique behaviors, and the diverse compositions that you captured.
bravo!
Great set! For the BIF shots, did you handhold or use support? I can never get anything that sharp with a9 and 200-600. I have been chasing this family of AKs near my house. The conditions here are always very windy which may be part of the reason.

These were all handheld, I'm terrible at BIF off of a tripod unless a slower owl or something. We also had some decent wind some of the time. It was tricky. Most people I was shooting with were missing everything but I practice BIF and fast BIF a lot so I made out pretty well.
Is your 200-600 at least sharp on static subjects? Only asking because recently Arash (speedmaster20d) bought a 200-600 and it was a dog. I sent him samples from mine, he exchanged his and his new copy is matching mine. So if you don't see sharpness with static shots then you may have a bad copy like he got.

Mine can be tack sharp with static shots for sure. I posted some in shots in various threads here. I just can't get the BIF down. I haven't shot with it for a while because I got frustrated with BIFs. Maybe I'll just look at your pictures instead.
Arbitrage you’re absolutely right. I had to go through 3 copies Of the 200-600G , kid you not. The 3rd is a charm- but the first 2 copies had mild Decentering and just weren’t as sharp in the center. At the time I had tested all 3 copies on the A7RIV body which I no longer own (A9ii now). Still that at least tells me the lens can handle higher resolutions if you get a good copy
Take care
You're variety of subject matter is amazing and you always seem to take full advantage. I'd be happy with this collection over a lifetime and you nailed it in one post. These are fantastic
