My XT-2 started having problems with the rear screen. I noticed that when the camera was turned on the, rear screen would not display any information. After turning the camera off and then on again, the screen would function as normal. Today, the screen will not display any information. It does energize; I can see it turn on and off but nothing will appear (when turning on, the screen goes from black to a dark purple color. This goes away when I turn it off or switch it to the EVF). The EVF works just fine and the camera continues to take images. The camera was not hot and the battery was freshly charged.
I bought this camera used from B&H about year ago. It looked in mint condition and has performed very well for me. It is running the latest firmware version.
I cleaned the eye sensor area and checked my menu settings to confirm nothing was changed or I if I had it set to EVF only (that has happened before). Everything checks out OK. One minute it was working and the next it doesn't. Looks like I will have to package up the XT2 and send it in for service.
A few questions:
Have you encountered this problem before?
What was the solution to your problem?
What has your experience been with the repair center in Edison, NJ?
Have you tried going to Menu, wrench, users settings and reset? If you have not done this, I would suggest giving that a try. If that does not work, you can call tech support at 1-800-800-3854 ( which I find to be excellent ) and see what they say.
One more suggestion. Try cycling through the view mode settings (button on the side of the EVF housing) and perhaps cleaning the eye sensor window visible in the little cut-out at the bottom of the eye cup. I've accidentally changed view modes and noticed some odd interactions with eye detection when eye control is set for the LCD depending on ambient light. If you're in that mode it may be preventing it from turning on. Or cycling the modes may clear a stuck setting.
I think I located the source of the problem. When I articulate the screen it starts to work. However, when I pull it down as if shooting above my head the screen freezes and starts to display lines and fades very slowly. I suspect that the cable that connects the screen to the camera body is the culprit. Since the screen is intermittent, my guess is that there is a short caused by a loose cable. Perhaps it is simply pulled out and needs reconnected? A simple fix would be more than welcome! I'll keep the forum posted on the final resolution.
Update - Spoke with Fuji and they said the power board needs to be replaced. Repair was authorized and I hope to have the camera back in my hands within 10 days.
Final update = I just received my XT2 back from Fuji today. They replaced my LCD screen and gave the camera a good cleaning. It looks great and is nice to have it back. I was using my old 5D MKII camera and what a difference the Fuji is in terms of size, but also in performance.
