Captured this interesting battle between a younger male Anna's and a new fledgling. This male was very aggressive to all birds in the yard even diving at finches. Normally hummingbirds defend their feeding territory from other hummingbirds but leave the other small birds alone. This male did not take well to this young bird coming into his favourite flowers and attached it in the air for a few seconds before driving it down on a large poppy where this series of shots took place.

Oh, poor little baby. I hope he was unscathed . Neat shots Geoff.

Thanks Birdie. The little one came out of it okay and flew off so I hope no major injuries. I did do some reading up on Anna's behaviour and there was some mention that it was rarely observed that a hummingbird comes out of these types of territorial fights with any injuries. Most observations suggested that the birds weren't injured.
This behavior might explain me just finding a dead hummer not far from my feeder. Looks like the eye was the target several times. These are incredible Geoff, I imagine the camera saw more than you did

Wow, amazing both to see and to think you could follow the swift action Geoff

Thanks Morris...I was lucky that they basically stayed in the one spot on the poppy so just fired away...what was more lucky was that this was just outside the MFD of the lens so I was close to missing the shots entirely.
