They are tiny, straggling plants, stems up to 10cm long. My book says the flowers are 1 cm across but my impression is that they can be smaller. They tend to be solitary. The flowers are only open for few hours during the day, and only if there is sun. I have them in my garden but rarely notice them, even in the recent, prolonged sunny weather.
They can be found in almost any country.
The foliage can cause irritation to skin. However, the leaves are said to be edible in small quantities.

Brian, the nodules on the petal tips, are those for pollinator attraction, or insect repellent?

Thanks for the comments John and Douglas- appreciated
Douglas- I've really no idea what the nodules purpose is, but they are described as hair glands and the plant does produce various chemicals including insectacides but the flower essence has some "psychic" properties if you believe that sort of thing.
