How well will these lenses perform on an R or RP? Or are they designed primarily for use on the R5, R6, and successors?

What ever happened to f8 being a good thing? All I hear about are the crazy extremes. I fear for any statues of Ansel Adams that may exist.

Here are a couple photos with the RP. My 800mm lens arrived, but not my R5 so I had to borrow a friends RP. It did great with the native 800mm, but struggled a bit with the 1.4x attached. I love the buttery bokeh.

Going to need more shots to be sure, but initially it seems that ES is sharper than EFCS when shooting handheld. Might be some sort of strange waveform vibration along that light, hollow barrel when compared with a heavier lens. Maybe others could see if they notice any increase in 1:1 sharpness with ES.

The maximum magnification is only 0.14x at 6m MFD.
I wonder if Canon will make some extension tubes for RF and they have for EF.

I suppose the 35mm Fotodiode tube would allow about 4.5 m/15 ft MFD if the focal length doesn't change much and I'm mentally correct this late at night.

Focal length will likely decline a lot less than with the 100-400II going to MFD (nominal 400mm becomes about 200mm real focal length). A bigger question for such a relatively simple DO lens is if IQ will still be good with extension rings added, and if there is a drop in AF speed or more hunting.

the Diffraction-Limited-Aperture of the R5 is f 7.1 so is it possible to take really sharp pictures with a f11 lens?

I have the 800 RF and yes, it's very sharp, my main complaint so far is the MFD of 20 feet. I really hate that. It is amazing that you can shoot sharp photos at slower shutter speeds at 800 mm. The IS is amazing. I'm waiting on my adapter to arrive, hopefully today or Monday to be able to trial other lenses. I have already fallen in love with the R5's eye AF for birds.

I was out of state when it all arrived and I've not had much time to play with it yet but here are a couple I was able to grab. My only chance to go out, a couple of my grandkids were with me.

Super cropped, probably around 100%.

cropped but not severely.

Of course, but with a little less resolution than at the wider apretures. You have not used the 5DsR at f/11 when DOF is needed?
More pixels increases the system resolution even at small apertures. Of course there are limited gains as the aperture decreases, but 45MP at f/11 will still be better than 30 MP at f/11 for example.
