My annual fly fishing trip turned into as much a photography trip as a fishing one. I had plenty of time for doing both fishing and photography but I think I found more things to shoot than fish to catch. While driving out though the country side looking for quail I finally spotted one sitting on a fence post, so I turned around and pulled to the side of the road and poked my 600mm out the window. Expecting to see just the quail I was quite surprised at what I was looking at, a pair of Flicker Woodpeckers had made a nest/home right where the quail was sitting.
For the next four days I was back at this location early in the morning and was presented with different shooting scenes every morning. Here's a few of the shots I was able to get.
Super nice...even though the male is showing red shafted head markings, those yellow wings scream hybrid. Interesting how many variables the flickers show.

Appreciate it Joshua, I stumbled upon this scene totally by accident.

Thanks very much, I was thinking the same thing on a few shots you can really see the yellow under wings.

What a treat they gave you Louie and this allowed us to have the treat of seeing your wonderful photos.
All that action on a really cool perch too?? I'm constantly amazed at the things / settings out there that are never seen...until they are. That you got some fabulous pictures of this dynamic place is a proverbial feather in your cap.
