Am not sure if this has been discussed yet here on forum, but what y'all think of this tripod?

well evidently there is no shortage of them in either flavor considering the source locale. they are in stock. those who have them like them but some do find some issues with the head and find it is a little lacking. so they purchase the accessory head plate which negates its smaller size overall.

market environment at the moment is having a "effect" on all nonessential purchases at this point.

another set of legs for the market to digest. i did handle it for a day thanks to a friend. can't really give an active opinion beyond that. not a big wow that would twist my arm to get the wallet out for. i'm more then satisfied with what i already have.

it was a big push on their part of the sell.

Not much.
I think it is the same tripod as in this 9-page thread. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1624692

Before long there will probably be some nearly new ones for sale at reasonable prices.

It's a great little tripod. Innovative, expensive, not for everybody. But if you value bang for your kg or lb, minimal packing length and volume, and use compact gear like mirrorless FF with small to medium-sized lenses (not super long FL or ultra-fast) its a very nice piece of kit.

yes it is, but only to a point. that's where the compromises may be harder to accept as one gets into using it more. those that might and will be adding to its cost.

IMO it’s all about the right tool for the job. There are sturdier tripods and taller tripods but the PD offers a cool looking, compact solution.

My travels have dropped to zero but I’ve ended up using it more than I thought. The little phone holder has come in handy for video conferences.

Regarding pricing- a quick glance at ebay for sold items shows prices dropping a bit for the carbon fiber versions but they are still going for more than the Kickstarter pricing.

I’m sure there will be a V2 eventually. I’d like a panning head and a better integrated tool holder.
Beyond that I think it’s sweet.

But every piece of equipment has compromises. Whether a certain compromise affects their use is dependant on individual users and how they use their equipment.

It's only a compromise if it affects your use of the equipment. Paying twice the price and not getting anymore benefit is not smart money...but you know that.

Like I said some more than others. And the mindset of the owner right or wrong.

What do you mean by the mindset of the owner? I find people that purchase the most expensive things dig up a way to justify the purchase...mindset of the owner I guess.

i think that would be self explanatory. its's what the owner thinks it should be or do regardless of its (the device) true purpose/function.

There are no compromises in this tripod for my use. I have zero interest in stitched panoramas or long or fast lenses. To me, carrying a tripod that is too big or heavy is a compromise. As for "smart money"- no, a $600 tripod is not twice as good as a $300 tripod. A $2000 lens is not twice as good as a $1000 lens. We are not in the commodity trading market, we are buying tools. In my case a professional, tool, but even of amateurs- if you can afford it and you like, and you plan to keep and use it for a long time, seems like smart money to me.

I was skeptical when I first got it but through practice, I use this tripod more than my Gitzo and RRS combo. However, I would not use it for superteles with extenders. I think the head just isn't strong enough. I use a Fuji system but when I attach the Canon 300 f/2.8 IS, there's a bit of struggle.

You need to pull the head up two or three inches if you need to go portrait mode so you can move the head around. I found it light and quick to set-up. The tripod locks are well designed that its easy to deploy and fold. YMMV.

btw, I ordered it when it was offered on Kickstarter. Hope this helps.

I feel like bit overpriced for that size.
