The "Australia is merely a chewed gum sticking on our shoe" comment by China says a lot.
I was born and raised in China, spent the first 26 years of my life growing up there. I will try my best not to buy stuff made in China, as much as I can but sometimes not possible, not 100% anyway. Last week I went out to buy made-in-USA Black and Decker weed trimmer and leaf blower (probably still have parts from China), instead of the ones made in China by Chinese companies, even though they are cheaper. The buying cheaper stuff mentality hollowed out the manufacturing of this country in the last 30 year. The West raised a tiger that will bite them. Wake up, folks. ...Show more →
That's a shame, we really do have to look to the future and behave like a global community, these games should have been left behind with the 1900's.
Any community standards here about dog whistle comments? Insinuating that China will surprise attack the US and start a World War III is as far off tangent as you can get in a camera forum with members from around the world and of all backgrounds. Didn’t come here for Fox News...

I just ignore off-tangent comments (don't feed the troll). If one user makes repeated comments (without ever being on-topic), I put the user on my ignore list. If the entire forum were to turn into such comments, I would much rather go to a different forum than try to suppress those comments. My hobby is photography, no policing a forum, and there are plenty of fora around (although I feel most at home here on FM).

Exactly. Don't feed the trolls and they will leave by themselves.
What happened here? I've merely posted a 9mm f/5.6 full frame lens review. Unfortunately, either we go back to topic (photography) or this thread will be locked. I've said many times, FM is not a political forum.
Sorry, I didn't mean to derail (at least I think is as at fault), I was merely asking a question that is common now.
In my neck of the woods country of manufacture is not only important, it's a legal obligation to note when marketing a product.
Some sites are carful to post it, like Ken Rockwell (I couldn't think of another example), although Ken, imo, is bordering on racism when he does so, tying the COM to expected quality.
I'm currently using a Sigma fp for my digital photo and video, but when I was using a Sony a7S, the Laowa 15/2 was one of my favorite lenses. Incredibly smooth rendering and the amazing effect from the combination of wide angle, large aperture and close focus capabilities. Truly a one-of-a-kind lens. Build quality and IQ were top notch.
The L mount lineup has very few native options in the wide end, and wider M lenses typically don't play well with FF sensor stacks, so if Laowa starts tailoring their designs for digital mirrorless, I'm very excited to hear it.
To be honest, 9mm seems like a ridiculously specialized focal length, so I'm hoping to see some in the 15-24mm range. 18/2 and compact would be a killer video rig on the fp.

I thought I read somewhere that they were going to port over some of their Sony lenses to L mount.

So was I, but it is a ground breaking lens and it's to be expected?
It is a first, but it's not without competition. There is still the CV 10mm. If I were in the market for something that wide, I wouldn't accept quality less than the CV just to gain a single millimeter. I only need to see so much of my shoes or tripod legs in the shot.

For me every 1mm is useful.
For example, I had to take a picture of a door recently, it was already hung and in a tight corridor in a Victorian home.
I simply couldn't get back far enough to fit the door in the comp (with the 12mm end of the 12-24), so I had to stitch which was a painful exercise.
The CV10 I had (in M mount) would have helped, but a 9 would have been better again as I'm sure the 10 would have required some stitching too.
But (the quality & price) and the flat out zero negotiation from the company owner on products coming from a particular country makes this a no go.
We'll be stiching those shots or using a modified Samyang 8mm fish, de-fished to make it happen on those super rare jobs.

It’s both 1mm and incredible close focus capabilities. If you just do regular UWA use, the CV is probably the better option, but the Laowa has a 10cm mfd vs 30cm for the CV.
I’ve got the 15/4 and the MFD turns it into a very unique tool
I will be quite excited to see how this lens tests and what the price is. I am also quite interested to see how the small - and much less wide - Samyang 14/2.8 II does.

I think its important to consider what 1mm means at these wide focal lengths. If we imagine the difference relative to a 35mm lens, 9mm vs. 10mm would be half way between 28mm and 35mm. Or it is what a 50mm lens is to a 58mm lens. This is a noticeable change in angle of view.
