p.1 #1 · Osprey with a different approach....

Usually Osprey hover and fall out of the sky upwards of 80mph. This Osprey did it's best Eagle impersonation and cruised in to pick up this fish.

Nice sequence. Looks like the normal osprey approach to catching a fish

Thanks Morris They usually hit the water from straight up and submerge completely underwater. This pic shows what we get 95% of the time.

I think the approach depends on how deep the fish is. A live fish under the surface will be better approached at a higher angle. The fish it got in the images seems to have been a dead fish - no head and may have been closer to the surface and hence a shallower angle of approach from the osprey. But may be I am wrong.

Nice action shots. The colors in the water sure look good. Parts of the osprey look to be a bit hot. How does it look pre-processing?

Hi Bibek,,,,

you are 100% right but the lake has huge schools of shad and almost always are the food of choice and the osprey attack from overhead. I shoot almost daily for osprey and eagles with the dead fish being the choice of eagles.

Kcollett

this is a bright sunny day and almost impossible to not get reflections off the water creating "hotspots" and my editing is done very quickly so not really in to trying to fix things like this. I am happy just to keep those highlights as a reminder of the day. Thanks for the comment...

Beautiful set of images!! Osprey are my favorite bird to observe and photograph because of their insane ability to dive into water coupled with their sheer determination to survive.

From the shadow angle of your shots and illumination would hazard a guess this is nearing sunset. Beautifully lit subject coupled with sharp focus. Also like your editing of these images because it looks very natural. Always is a little difficult to make it look like what we see and is subject to ones' interpretation.

Again, beautiful images!!
