I am a newbie is shooting video with my a7iv, I never found a way to have my camera autofocus turned on while shooting video, I either have to hold a button to try to have it autofocus or it won't do it by itself, I am shooting in HAVCS HD 120P 100 . can any expert please share their autofocus opinion for this ? I mainly want to shoot slomo with my Ronin S and I want it to auto focus without having to press any buttons. any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried to have lock on but it's not working, I tried spot focus and also losing focus.... so any help would be super grateful!
So, this is weird. You asked the exact same question a year ago. Am I being punked? There is no A7IV so I assume you're talking about the A7R IV. To answer your question: make sure you use a lens that supports autofocus, then make sure you're in AF-C, not AF-S.
I never got the answer from last year. and yes, I am using A7R IV, shooting with AF-C under HAVCS HD 120P 100 but it's not working. it changes to MF. thanks
Sony FE 1.4/35. Thanks I been trying with the object lock on mode which I can't enable during video, or I have to hold a button down to refocus, which makes it tough, especially on a steadicam, it's hard to hold a button to shoot video. hope to get it figured out. thanks in advance!

If that's what you want then you may want to turn on Touch Tracking rather than Touch Focus. You can change this in the 'Function of Touch Operation' setting, which can be found in Custom Operation 2, page 10 of the menu.

The reason you are not seeing AF in movie mode is that you are set for 120fps (slow motion video). AF does not work in the high frame rate movie mode. The only option is MF, as you are observing.
I also notice that you have APS/Super 35mm set to off. I am told that the quality of the video is better in APS/Super 35mm on. I have it set to Auto.
One change to Mark Galer's video for the A7R4 and A9. There is no Center Lock-on for the A7R4 or the A9. Center Lock-on has been replaced by the tracking AF modes. It is easy to track an object for either still or motion capture by using those modes. The touch operation to select the focus point that will be tracked is the same and the point being tracked can be changed while capturing video by touching a new point. The speed of focus shift is set in the AF Drive Speed menu.
