I dig everything about these new shorter designs, but would like to see at least the 50mm's new styling ported over to the M mount. I realize that probably won't happen, but have never dug the chromed filter/bayonet bit, or the chunky knurled focus ring.
Regardless, most Voigtlander lenses on B&H are still priced at the holiday rate--equal to about what these new designs will apparently go for. I hope they're doing ok.

I'd prefer the old knurling too, but as the 20% lower weight looms larger, they can put Spyderco G-10 on it if they wish to. And so much of what happens is messaging, and anything that caters to 'stills' photography over video can only be good, IMO.
I was shocked to see the Rube Goldberg apparatus involved in the de-click thingy, an extra ring, springs etc. Imagine 24% extra for a feature you never use, it's like putting 400kg of sandbags in your car's boot. (The YT crowd would beg to differ though.) Cosina is the anti-Zeiss.
The 35/1.2 SE is 387g and official price is 115K yen while the VM version is 332g and 135K yen (based on official specs).
The 40/1.2 SE is 340g and 100K yen while the original E-mount version is 420g and 135K yen and VM is 315g and 120K yen.
The 50/1.2 SE is 383g and 115K yen while the original E mount version is 434g and 150K and VM is 347g and 135K.
The new versions are priced nicely compared to previous E-mnount versions, VM seems to be priced in the middle.
Looks like 35/1.2 is coming out in May (no specific date yet), and 40/1.2 in June, and finally 50/1.2 in July.
40/1.2 and 50/1.2 seem optically same as previous versions but without the clickless apertures and with different housing, optimized to be smaller and lighter.

That's kind of mean, man.
I was just wondering if the new 40/1.2 SE will use the same aspherical moulding as the original one which showed more specular highlight onion pattern compared to the CV 50/1.2. It's just an observation/hope. Not trying to be mean.

Damn, this announcement might tempt me to go back to 35 and 50mm for my MF kit, even though the rendition of that 35 1.2 version 2 made PP a serious PITA back in the very early a7r days.

No. I get it. When you reviewed the 50's bokeh, I got so excited that future batches of the 40's glass might get the same onion-lite treatment. It hasn't happened. If Cosina isn't going to update the 40 there, I assume, it isn't going to happen (-- unless forum posts start including II, or typ-2, in a future nomenclature.

They would just redesign the externals, most likely. Here, we have the older lens on special and that seems a good bet too, new stock will have to work against the poor currency. It's a good move though, this series. Now, what's next? (Japan is not doing so well, if you have not heard, all the best for them).

Should put a bit of downward pressure on the originals for those with deep pockets and penchant for light weight optics.
For me I think I’d actually prefer the 35 1.2III in the old housing with knurled focus ring and declick aperture. To match my 50 2.0 that is. There’s a real benefit to having shared haptics among multiple focal lengths. Maybe all the e mount lenses will get the SE treatment...
The 110 comes to mind. It is heavy and would benefit in that department.

Well, for those of you who don't already own one obviously

I'm not sure the 110 would get much lighter. It doesn't have a ceclicked aperture, and if not including that is what is saving weight then you wouldn't get any weight savings. Same for the 65 f/2 Macro. I would love both of these lenses to be lighter, but they are already fairly light for the type of macro lenses they are. I think the weight of these lenses is mostly about the helicoid which just needs to be bigger in a macro lens.

what is the widest width of the new lenses, particularly the 40mm F1.2? I ask because the previous generation was too wide to be used in digiscoping...by just a few mm. If these SEs are 6mm less in width at the widest point (than the previous generation) - they will work as digiscoping lenses...

Selfishly, I hope they don't sell well so that future VC lenses continue to come with the clickless, continuous aperture option. One of the reasons I love the GM lenses - this is an essential feature for video. But cheaper always sells more, so we'll see...

I really like the feel of the focus ring on the CV 10,15, and 21 I have. Was considering picking up a 40. We'll see what the price difference ends up being for this new one compared to a used "old" 40.

If you want a clickless aperture, and you plan to use the lens only for video, then Duclos will De-click it for $50. The real advantage is if you want to use the lens for both stills and video, then being able to switch back and forth is nice. I hope that Cosina will continue to offer both housings so people can have their preference, but what I really expect is that these SE lenses will be for stills and that Cosina is going to offer a set of cine lenses (maybe called CE instead SE for cine edition), and those will have a totally different housing with not only a clickless aperture, but also built-in focus and aperture gears. I expect the housing to all be identical or nearly identical for the CE lenses as well with the same diameter, the same or nearly the same length, and the same filter size (which will be bigger). Differentiating the lines ought to be a money maker for Cosina and doesn't require all that much work. They have a 21 f/1.4, 35 f/1.2, 40 f/1.2, & 50 f/1.2 right now. If they added one or two lenses between 21 and 35 that was at least f/1.4, and one or two longer lenses that were at least f/2, they would have a fantastic cine set and they would be a bargain at $2,000 a piece.

It's definitely cool to see CV add more options to the line up. I am sure the smaller sizes, and lower price will appeal to some buyers.
Personally I am hopping they still make lenses in the original design. I would have really liked to see two versions of the 35mm f1.2 one in the new style, on the the classic style.
Currently I have the CV 21mm f1.4, 40mm f1.2, 50mm f2, 65mm f2, 110mm f2.5. I have found it such an awesome kit. The number one lens I wish they would make is a nice 28mm. If I could dream a 28mm f1.2 would be amazing.
Originally I was thinking iIf the 35mm f1.2 FE was sharper than the 40mm wide open, I would have maybe gotten it. I just don't see adding a new style to the set though, there is something really nice about having a set of lenses with all matching ergonomics.
