p.1 #1 · Couple composites with Rain Shots

Congratulations to friscoron for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 2 votes - View Previous Winners

Hi all,

When I do virtually any image, there's always a thought that the shot in my viewfinder is really just the beginning of what the final image may be. Sometimes, I already have a composite scene in mind before I do the shot, and sometimes i figure it out later. I composite very few of my images, as most of my work is from being hired by clients to do normal shots.

When I did the rain shots, I knew that I would put a few in some dark scenes, just see how they turned out. With Lindsey's, the one with three of her in one image, I just felt like the image could easily accommodate more than one dancer, and I decided to make it all about Lindsey.

Also, to be fair, I have an editor/designer that works almost full-time for me. In this case, I edited the dancer, and then she composited her into the scene under much of my art direction. But Sara did a fabulous job with both of these.

Here is that shot with the three Lindseys:

In our next shot, I wanted something a little different, and Sara found this awesome setting. I wanted it to be more urban though, so we found some buildings to work into the background.

Here's our fun shot of Megan:

Hey I like them both but #-is really outstanding! In #1 all the nutted color go together and the 3 figures make a very pleasing composition. The three draw you to the middle but not so strongly that the lights allow us to look at the overall scene that is very well put together.
In #2 I think the vanishing point is just to strong and pulls you in like a black hole!
Maybe if the buildings were a bit stronger we’d be able to escape the vortex and enjoy the barely visible surroundings and explore more!
Very nice work. That rain set-up is doing its job!!!

Thanks so much, John! It's always interesting to me to get feedback like this. I see my images one way, someone else sees them another, and another person will see him yet another way. I actually really like the second shot best of all. It's just a really interesting setting to me, and I like that you can barely see the buildings in the background.

Now... to see if I still get to do the shoot in April or not. This corona virus is changing my world.

John has great comments. I admit I enjoy them for far less technical reasons. Not that John's comments are not valid...they are! Very pleasing indeed and well taken!!

Top notch images! Both excellent but I especially like the first one! I love the mood lighting and moment of capture. Extremely well conceived and executed!
