Gotcha ... C/Y Distagon 28/2.8 happens to be one of my target manual lenses already in the stable.

Lots of focus on tradition and history, but we still too easily leave fingerprints behind on the viewfinder window of M cameras

I never leave the house with the M10 without my Optiktuch I use both Leica and Zeiss micro fibers because they seem to clean for a very long time without smear somehow. But yes, PITA.

L Mount is the new R Mount ... salient point, I think for those who aren't yet sold on the L mount being sustainable. Imo, this says more than the "alliance" regarding the future of the L mount, as it provides for the non-M (blasphemy to some), non-RF option.

Infancy yet for the L Mount, maybe ... but, it would seem that there is recognition that there remains a non-M market, also. The M & R (i.e. non-M) ran parallel, now the M & L will do so likewise (so it seems to me). And, of course still retaining M lens adaptation utility.

+1. I do the same. Btw, never clean such fiber with water. It can smear badly afterwards and lose fully its efficiency. I clean my in alcohol, for example technical grade ethanol and air dry afterwards.

Almost every time I listen to interviews with Dr Kaufmann or Peter Karbe I always learn something.

Lot of casually presented items of note in this video that relate to past, present and hints of where Leica is headed. Likewise going through some of Leitz/Leica history we learn some of the reasons that drove decisions for the present e.g. more recently the Q was an experiment that lead to the SL. Very cool IMO and very logical. And, why the M mount is not in the perfect center of the M camera, very cool x2.

Long video, but worth a couple of reruns to catch all the tidbits. Plenty of real information for many forum discussions. Likewise I always smile when I read people think Leica is not a technology company. Leitz/Leica was Always a technology company from day one.

Good to know! I've never had to clean any of my Leica/Zeiss micro fibers so far --which I always thought rather interesting. I suspect some type of teflon coating, but just a guess. Need to look into your enthanol approach too.

2020, the Summer of new important cameras is about to descend upon on us. According to strong rumors/leaks which will come out of the gate first?

-Canon R5/R6 ( Rumor: July 9th)
-Sony A7sII Successor, apparently new model ( Rumor: this Summer, after Canon R5 maybe mid-end July)
-Leica M10-R ( Rumor: July 16th or a day or two sooner)

Thanks for sharing! To me personally, I only find the M10-R release of interest. But I am already scared of the price tag before it is even seen.

No surprises. The new M10-R price will of course be outrageous as usual Hopefully not more than the M10-M. While I am very interested to see the overall IQ improvement on the new sensor, I will not be among the early adopters...by a long shot, simply because and thankfully I am already very happy with the M10's 24MPs. However, if I get overwhelmed by the results of the new sensor...bye bye my lovely M10

That's exactly what happened when the A7R was released in 2013. The majority of people said they have no need for higher MP sensors etc - I still see them on FM, > 90% of them have switched to a newer A7R version in the meantime and even changed brands for this. If you work with such sensor, you simply don't want to go back - the results speak for themselves. I would be very surprised if the M10R sensor does not include an increase in DR, too.
I also believe that many Leica street photographers already switched to the Q2 - for street photography, more MP might be an obstacle and might slow down in an unwanted way. But for any other kind of photography, I can only see a higher resolution sensor as beneficial in digital photography (talking from personal experience). Of course it remains open if the M10R price tag justifies the benefits.

... I did migrate from A7r to A7rII to A7rIII to A7rIV...OMG were you talking about me. . I keep telling myself I'll just keep adapting my tiny M glass to the 61MP sensor when I want Uber resolution. But as we all know, that never really satisfies for very long

The M10 seems to handle noise relatively well as is, IMO. This is one thing I worry about with the 40MP M10-R sensor and as reported with the SL and Q upgrades to 47MPs.

Hahah, no, I didn't even know - that's more resolution than I even ever tried . Horses for courses of course. Already at 36 MP FF I see how Leica (and other M glass) shines, especially also vintage lenses. Film again gives me a different flair and look at low resolution with the same lenses. I enjoy both .

Would you be kind enough to show us some pictures that would not be good with "only 24 mpix"?
Also, according to DxO, the DR of the M10 is 13.2, the Q2 is 13.5. Do people really complain about it?

I didn't get that 24MP wouldn't be good ... only that more MP = More Good.

Printing / Cropping / Detail kinda things most pragmatically, I would think.
I mean, shooting 28mm and cropping into 35 or 50 territory ... still leaving plenty on the bone to work with ain't such a bad thing. Almost becomes a "2nd lens" of sorts.

Indeed but we are talking about an M here. 99% of the experience is choosing your lens, previewing your frame before even looking through the viewinder and so.
The ethos of the rangefinder is also about "zooming with your feet" and the famous quote: "if your pictures are not good, you are not close enough".

If you want to crop heavily enough to change focal length or feel the need to have "a 2nd lens of sorts", there are more obvious choices than a M.
