p.1 #2 · Experimenting with "Classic Horror" lighting
Andrew..I don't see a problem with your lighting! All looks great to me but I can only comment as a viewer. Shooting the images that you are makes me "challenged" in this type of photography!
Great and again WELCOME!!

Just some thoughts - If you want another classic horror lighting setup, set the light either directly overhead or down low so you have darkness around the eye sockets. You might also consider using a snoot to light just the head and bring the surrounding rock way down in brightness.
The hard light looks good and edgy, but it's kind of bright to set a horror mood.

This doesn't feel much at all like classic horror lighting. You really need an exaggerated contrasty uplight and definitely no soft box even if it's small. If you can find a Mole-Richardson Mini Mole - small fresnel light to experiment with and then reference some of the old movies and shoot in black and white I think you'll be a lot closer to what you think you want.
p.1 #5 · Experimenting with "Classic Horror" lighting
I have to agree with a few of the others.
Are you just calling this horror because the lighting is bad or were you really trying to achieve horror-like?
Some of her face is blown out, especially the upper hand because the light was not controlled. Her lower hand does evoke a kinda monster-like color since it's un-humanly red!!!
Instead of saturating try cooling it down quite a bit to give it that sorta horror bluish feel and bring the shadows up. And as was said, maybe some shadowy uplight!!!
This is actually shadow-less beauty light!!! LoL
Hey but apart from the lighting it's actually a very nice and well done shot. It suffers a bit from the arm to close to the camera syndrome but good none the less! Her hair does have that sorta running from something look which makes us wonder what might be happening!
I do applaud you being creative and not just taking another cliche' boring beauty shot!!!
And by your Flickr it's good to see people getting out of their comfort zone and shooting what the don't usually shoot.
