An amazing display of nature's power at Cape Disappointment this weekend. Combination of King tide plus a large swell system down from Alaska and some sun breaks in the clouds and rain just made for some spectacular images. It was really hard to narrow it down to just these 7.
The 150+ photographers were lined up elbow to elbow so I won't be too surprised if more of this event show up here.
Wow!!! So powerful. Great captures. I've never been there but do get to the PNW once in a while. Is this Cape Disappointment lighthouse in some of those shots? Or North Head Lighthouse?
Color was quite dull and lifeless. A hint of greens and browns in the cliff face, a hint of greens in the face under the lighthouse and a bit of dirty green to some of the base of the water fan.
The sky was mostly overcast with some cloud breaks but even then the color just didn't add to the images. I've seen some shots of the day that IMHO are over-saturated in order to create more color than there was.
I just find the B&W do the images an order of magnitude more justice than any natural color version could.

Nothing disappointing about these! They are astonishing.
Would love to see more.

I'm surprised others haven't posted more yet. I have seen a color shot of the 3rd image's wave above that is cropped differently on facebook that must have been shot within milliseconds of my shot.
I expect more will start to get posted throughout the week. There were a lot of photographers out.
