I tried C1 for a few weeks. Liked it. But not enough, or, rather, more enough than Lightroom + Photoshop to switch.
Basically, I think that:
(1) Lightroom + Photoshop together, as well as the rich world of plugins) are superior in all respects to C1 alone. DAM, image editing power, but ease of use, workflow etc.
(2) Lightroom + Photoshop together (without plugins), are equal in most respects to C1 alone, but Lightroom's DAM is unmatched and C1 probably makes some things easier to get to quicker (e.g., the microconstrast structure enhancement).
(3) C1 is superior in all respects to Lightroom alone for workflow except DAM.
Basically, if you want one-tool-to-them-all, then C1 is your thing. For the same money though you can get LR+PS, and then it's a wash. Add in the plugins (in particular, the TK panels and the color/luminosity masks tools as well as Topaz etc.), then I really do think LR+PS have the edge.
I am, of course, biased.
Not so much because of prejudice or fan-boism, or any love/hate for either company or their tools, but because of the massive sunken cost in learned skill, experience, conditioned intuition, etc. in the LR+PS ecosystem, including hours of tutorials and workshops. Further, some of the best photographers I know have used LR+PS for decades, and share their wisdom through these frameworks. All of this makes the activation energy cost to break out of the LR+PS ecosystem very high. And as the net payoff is pretty much zero, then ....
As for the subscription model --- I love it. Rolling updates have been great and frequent and have paid off the investment to my economic and productivity benefit many-fold. The features coming in with these updates have been truly remarkable, that in the oh-so-pre-2000's passe "buy-to-pseudo-own, pay-to-update" model would have easily constituted several "major" version updates.
