p.1 #1 · Painterly effect attempt

I decided to try using the painterly effect on a portrait.

In the background areas, it looks like you shot through a screen. The same pattern is there in other areas, just not as noticeable. What did you do to get this effect?

I agree with Jim Robert. You can see the pattern on the lady's body. Very creative but was it intended? If so..fine job!

It looks like you overlayed a canvas texture on top of the image. I always think of "paintery" effect as having more to do with lighting and processing. I've also seen some where people use the art history brush to make it actually look like paint strokes but I know that is time consuming.

I like the canvas effect in the background and I like the portrait. Just not sure they go together. With the canvas effect, a more painterly subject seems apropos. She is clear as day realistic so the effect becomes a little distracting for me. It is a great texture and I would want to borrow it for some of my images!

Thanks for suggesting improvements. The lighting in particular is not right for painterly effect. Just a trial run.

The effect is supposed to be a canvas substrate, hence the textures.
