p.1 #1 · Is Peak Design Daily Backpack (or Zip) V2 worth it?

Hi,

I'm looking for a good camera backpack for my Full frame mirrorless set plus individual personal items.
Is Peak Design V2 Backpack Zip worth at its price?

I see there are many other good backpacks for a half price, like Manfrotto...

Thanks

I personally like the Edc V1 over the Zip, I felt the 20L wasn't enough space for me perosnally

As an alternative I went with a Thule Aspect backpack over the Everyday zip. One of the main selling points is that the upper compartment of the Thule uses a separate zipper for the upper compartment. I like this because it reduces the chance of something accidentally falling out of the camera section while someone is getting their belongings out of the upper part.

Lower space is good as well. I have carried around my D750 with Nikon 70-200 f/2.8, 17-35 f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4D with no issues. One of the lenses needed to be mounted to the camera as there is not enough space to stow the body as a separate item, but that's not an issue for me.

The backpack is typically ~$130 on Amazon.

Thank you! Look like it's a great camera backpack!

I ordered/received PD Everyday Zip 20L and I returned it the next day! It's not a camera backpack for me! I really don't like the design of the dividers and main compartment for camera gears.. It's may be a great travel bag but not a camera backpack for me. Not worth it.

I own the PD Everyday 30L and I'm not a fan of the internal divider system. It's a little flimsy when I'm trying to carry some of my heavier lenses. Rather, I would recommend the Tenba Solstice 24L Camera Backpack. It has easy access from the top as well as a place for a 15" laptop and other accessories. Taste and preference in photography backpacks is very subjective, so I would try various backpacks in a store as much as possible before deciding. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1375348-REG/tenba_636_416_solstice_24l_backpack_blue.html?sts=pi-ps&pim=Y

PD has good products, except the everyday backpack. the 5L/10L version are solid build quality and for specific use, but not a big fan of the 20L backpack. The practical usable space is less than what it apears and internal divider system is not for everyone. I would rather have a back pack with enough space and just a side pocket dedicated for camera with lens for easy access.

Interesting comments. For me, the PD Everyday 20L pack is easily the best city pack I've used. I find the access very easy and quick, the modularity highly useful, and the pack very roomy considering its exterior dimensions. Plus it looks cool. I've also used it for light hiking, though I would not take it on long difficult hikes.

Obviously, the design is different than that of other packs, so one would need to try it.

I recently got the edc 20l v1 and overall like it.

Main complaints are the top compartment doesn't have much room for non-camera carry-around things like jackets, lunch, purchases etc, and the shoulder straps imo are crap. I don't know what they were thinking in putting such flimsy shoulder straps on such an expensive pack, they are easily among the worst-padded and cheap-feeling should straps on any pack I've tried. I ended up getting Zinz strap pads and that helps, but doesn't feel entirely "natural"/well-integrated.

Otherwise, I like the organizational system. It's very configurable, innovative and holds the equipment I need held, and the pack isn't too bulky and looks decent for walking around the city.

With some improvements (which imo they missed in v2) this pack could be really great.

Take a look at the newly released fully waterproof PGYTECH Monome (or something like that - you can find it on YT). That's just come out. It looks a great pack for urban (no waist belt) it has an amazing array of nice touches - like colour coded battery pouches you can flip Green>Red so you know which you've used, and so on. 25L expandable in two areas to give you 35L and also has a section that converts into a waist pouch (fanny pack to Americans) if you don't want to carry the whole thing around.

PGYTECH make top quality accessories for DJI drones etc. Cost over here is around US$120 and it's usually the same over there (USA). It was on Kickstarter.

Yes that's it. Getting some excellent reviews however without a waist belt it's not for me as I have a propensity to pack too much in.
