There is a lot of really cool beauty in this bird Joshua. Love the rich darker mood of colors on it. BG's are sweet with this subject. My eyes are wanting to see all of it in focus, at times I guess shooting at 600 and only at f/4 are going to really limit DOF. Might be a time when shorter with more f/stop and cropped up works better??

Glad you shared this. I was unfamiliar with this bird. You got a nice variety.
Do you happen to know what kind of food the bird eats, and if that beak shape is tailored to that.
Thank you very your kind words, M. D.! The aracaris belong to the toucan family and their feeding behavior is similar to each other. Their main food is fruit, all kind of fruit available in the rainforest. From what I could see, they love bananas. They slice a piece of banana with the front area of the beak, flick their head upwards, grab the banana with the beak wide open and enjoy it.

#2 for me followed close by #1

Karl, thank you very much! Yes, the DOF is limited since the lighting conditions were on the dim side. I really had to keep the shutter speed at 1/250seconds virtually all the time since they moved around as to minimize movement blur. I had to make do with less light in the rain forest, trying to reach a balance between getting sharp images and minimizing the noise due to light conditions there. For the “flight” shots, I bumped up the shutter speed to 1/500 seconds in anticipation of the bird taking off, but still the 3rd frame, the one I didn’t bother posting, showed plenty of movement blur and the head and a part of the body was chopped off.
