I was pointing to your advice that the M mount would be better suited to the L and Z mounts. That could be very misleading and just like your RF mount 50 trumping the M lens (this will not happen with the E mount lens which is a different beast altogether), the Z and L system 50s likely will trounce it.

My mistake. I got confused because there are announcement threads and review threads, sometimes with both versions, and I didn't look closely enough at this one. I just looked at the thread title, which doesn't say E-mount. I'll dig around and find a more appropriate thread.
I'll bet we get RF and Z mount versions of the Zeiss Milvus lenses before Voigtlander, but who knows

I agree this is likely. I have compared several M mount and E mount lenses on the Nikon Z cameras (both can be adapted to Z mount) and I have always preferred the E mount versions, but I haven't made this specific comparison. Still I think the E mount version would be my choice for the Nikon Z cameras. That said, my Nikon 50 f/1.8S has performance that very much rivals my Voigtlander 50 f/1.2 E- mount lens at similar apertures. I am not at all sure that even the E mount 50 f/2 AL would outperform the Nikon lens on the Nikon Z cameras.

I meant the M-mount CV 50 APO would likely perform better on L or Z than it does on Canon R. I didn't mean to sound like I was saying it would perform better on L or Z than a native L or Z lens.

Yeah, perhaps. No need to reformulate anything with those. Though Zeiss seems to be very inactive lately.
I'll bet we get no further Zeiss lenses of any kind in RF, Z, or E mount. For cinema lenses, though, it's full steam ahead:
"The Studio at B&H is happy to share with you the announcement of 10 new lenses and 4 lens sets that are joining the ZEISS Supreme Prime lens family, expanding the range and providing you with even more creative choices. The new lenses are mostly part of the Supreme Radiance Prime lens lineup, adding 18, 40, 65, and 135mm focal lengths to the seven existing Radiance lenses, with focus scales marked in feet or, for those who prefer, the 18, 40, 65, and 135mm are also available through B&H with focus scales marked in meters. In the short amount of time since their initial release, the Radiance Primes have gained favor among cinematographers for producing sharp images consistent with, though a touch warmer than, the Supreme Primes, but with the added ability to create and control lens flares, thanks to their T* blue lens coatings. This helps you create emotionally moving shots in camera, while maintaining creative control over the degree of flare you wish to introduce into the shot."
I'd say the new GM 50 1.2 is a good "50" candidate to be compared in this Voigt 50/2 thread. In the meantime, check out the comparisons with the 2016 Sony Zeiss FE 50 F1.4, to include rendering samples at the start of this thread.
'The Sony 50mm f1.2 G Master becomes the best quality standard lens for the e-mount to date, delivering the razor-sharp details and smooth rendering we’ve come to recognise..'
Cameralabs, who not only never mention Voigtlander, they don't even list the brand. If you only read them (and a lot more reviewers besides them), these lenses do not exist.
It's an unusual comparison - a 780 gram $2000 AF lens in one corner; a 365 gram $1050 MF lens in the other corner - a real David and Goliath contest there. The Sony is literally twice the lens the other one will ever be!.

The new Sony GM lenses may perform similarly or even surpass the CV 35/2 and 50 f/2 APO lenses in resolution at center + f/2. However, at least in the case of the 35/1.4 GM, it doesn't win on axial CA and flare performance (+ sunstars for some shooters). Likely the FE 50/1.2 GM will follow the same pattern.
Aside from pure optical performance, theses lenses were clearly designed for different applications.

Rich, Try to open up the lens more. F/2.8shou.d do it for infinity. At f8, you are not using this lens to its maximum potential.
Hi Vivek,
Thank you.
I will try to keep that in mind. But my shutter speed in these conditions based upon the above would have been 1/1280 at f2.8. I am accustomed you using lenses at or near optimum performance which is often at about f8 especially for maintaining DOF.
I just received a Marumi 49mm DHG 200 (+5) Achromat to use with the lens as well as with my new Zeiss 85mm f4 Tele-Xenar ZM lens for when I do not want to carry a macro lens into the field. I would presume that I should shoot this combination with either lens at close to f8 for maintaining sharpness and DOF. I will do some quick tests in the Kitchen today as we are having rain for the next several days.
Playing around with my M9 + Voigt 50/2 APO. (overcast light)

(exif shows Leica 50/2 APO because of the auto-setting. I've added 6-bit code to my Voigtlander lenses)
