Thanks. Yes, still take out the D500 to use my 500PF. When I know the birds will likely not fill more than DX frame then I take it over the D850 and use it without a battery grip for a lighter package and native 10FPS.

500PF is noticeably better sharpness at 500 wide open. It has much faster AF. It takes a 1.4TC fairly well. It is also so much lighter and more compact. The only reason to go with 200-500 is much lower cost and zoom flexibility.

Thanks Dave. I did crop into #3 but it was a frame filler for the entire bird. I thought I'd just crop in for a real closeup since I had enough pixels to work with. Also the full shot was sort of boring against sky compared to some of the other lower down shots.
Were you in a blind or were the birds just accommodating that day? I tend to find that the harriers in my area will divert or avoid getting too close when I just stand or sit in the field where they are hunting.

Thanks Rex. I think it was the Shorty chasing the harrier...it seemed that is the way it went with every interaction. The Shorties are very aggressive.
